Section 2: Geronimo deserves to be honored because he spent his life fighting to protect his people and their culture.

-Geronimo had many legendary escapes. In one, in the 1860s, Geronimo fled from US troops into a cave and never came out. He was spotted later miles away.
-He also made another escape from the US Army by jumping off of a cliff and into a river. This is why many people jumping off of planes call out this war cry.
-Geronimo also led several raids on many of the Mexican's who were going onto the tribe's land and sometimes even killed them.
-Geronimo led his people while trying to elude the 2 armies (Mexican and US) for over 5 months before he and his people grew tired and weary and surrendered.
-Geronimo's life as a prisoner after he surrendered was hard and weary. HE was paraded down the street on special occasions to show everyone that the most dangerous Native American Warrior was defeated and in their custody.
