White Angel Breadline, San Francisco- Dorothea Lange1933

This photo is showing a large group of men in a bread line during The Great Depression in 1933. Waiting in line was a daily necessity just to get scraps to hopefully feed the family during the uncertain times after the devastating crash of the US economy. This photo relates to my topic since at some points in life regardless of how wealthy you are or how long you are expected to live it can be challenging to look past the bad and survive the next sunrise. When all money is lost it doesn't matter how nice your hat is or what your social status was, all of the men are in the same line trying to obtain just enough hope to not turn their back on the community and family that they support and belong to.

Children are often unaware of how wealth will impact their years of survival although, that perspective is considered fortunate to the kids who are unable to grow up without the pressure of supporting a family. Not all families are able to financially protect their children from viewing the danger of the world and the violence of survival. In the art, piece the children holding weapons are not seeking victory, they fight for a voice and opportunity to grow old with a comfortable environment.

A wealthy family who arranged a marriage for their daughter is devastated by her overdose on pills. A tragedy of this sort will make for unease in the community since a conjoinment of power was so close to being formed. Would there be the same devastation if a less privileged person died? The subject yearning for life in the photo is the dog scavenging for a bite to eat although the attention is on the daughter that took her one life.

The visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to Fort Pitt Military Hospital- Sir John Tenniel

After a gruesome war, the royalty visits the hospital that has the injured and dead soldiers in. The clash of the rich VS the poor and dying soldiers leads to a tough truth of care inequality. The chance of death based on wealth in a hospital can be frightening although in a military hospital there are no walls to hide the dead bodies. This art piece shows a separation between healthy and hurt and rich and poor. Who is the real hero in this image? The soldiers are standing with respect to the unengaged royalty who sit and rest when some are unable to stand.

In this painting there is a women who wears the apron and holds the baby with the little girl sheltered behind the mother. A tree stands between the men and women who all very in age although none are necessarily elderly. Usually men die sooner than women although there is always uncertainty of conditions which can take a life at any age or gender. I think the tree symbolises growth although there is drought. A division between a life at home raising children and men free to leave for their remainder of time.
