"Jo is a senior assistant in Radionuclide therapy who has worked for the trust for over 25 years. She is an asset to the team and is the embodiment of being patient centred. A large amount of her work involves I131 Nuclear Medicine Therapy for Thyroid Ca on J93. She always goes above and beyond for the patient and will always help in anyway she can. One recent example of her going above and beyond is that Jo escalated an unwell patient to the nursing team and ensured that they received prompt medical attention. This was after a patient developed severe headaches, nausea and double vision post treatment.

We keep a local patient feedback form and just a few comments from over the past couple of years (and these being just the ones where she is directly named) are below:

“Jo is a superstar.”

“In particular a huge thank you to Jo for keeping my spirits ups and answering all my endless questions.”

“Jo was very good and made me feel relaxed.”

“Jo has been lovely and patient in explaining things and answering questions.”

“Jo from Nuc med very easy to talk to, knowledgeable and again made me feel at ease.”

“Jo was really informative and understanding.”

“Jo was lovely, always made sure I was OK.”

“Jo was very good and made me feel relaxed.”

“Jo has been lovely and patient in explaining things and answering questions.”

"There are no words to describe how much of an asset Shona is to the TYA team. I truly couldn’t have gotten through my cancer treatment without her and would have probably given up. She has become like a mum to me. She goes above and beyond in every aspect of her job, even phoning outside of her working hours to check I’m ok. You really know she cares and she is made for this role. When I wanted to raise awareness of youth cancer she came with me to my old school to support me in giving a presentation. She has also helped me in writing a book (guide) for young adults going through cancer treatment. Some people say that a positive mindset can help in one's recovery and a negative one can have the opposite effect. Well, if this is the case, it wasn't just the chemo that cured me but Shona also. She kept me laughing on my darkest days. This one particular time I remember I had dragged my

steroid-ridden bottom into her office unable to speak due to about 20 mouth ulcers and I just cried to her because I wanted to eat pizza so bad and we both ended up laughing so much. She said 'Well mol, you can't get much lower than this'. It's turning hard moments like this into funny ones that make the difference. I never wanted to be babied or treated like a patient, she treated me like a human being and I don't know if I could have got through the hellish experience without her. She made it not only bearable but genuinely humorous at times."

The framework encourages wards to tackle barriers when providing every patient with outstanding nutritional and hydration care, through collaborative working, quality improvement, leadership, and action. Through the embedding of the accreditation program wards will be empowered to act in their areas, which will lead to creating meaningful and measurable changes within nutrition and hydration care at LTHT.

Please see the intranet page for further information Nutrition Mission - Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (leedsth.nhs.uk)

The framework includes Bronze, Silver and Gold status.

Further news regarding accreditation will be shared soon.
