Adelita is a revised version of the original story "Cinderella." The main character, Adelita is a girl of Mexican heritage who experiences the same things from the classical Cinderella story. This book is primarily written in English, but has Spanish terms throughout the text, which shows inclusion and appreciation of other cultures, while educating students on the correct Spanish terms with their definitions.

The youngest daughter in this book, who is also the main character, marries the dragon to help her father. This text also expands on vocabulary, as well as valuable lessons of not judging someone based on appearance, rather by getting to know them.

The townsfolk believed she was evil and set out to kill her because they perceived her to be evil. This book can reflect on your perceptions of someone and how those perceptions affect the way that you treat them. Some vocabulary included in this text are:

imposing - used of a person's appearance/behavior
grovel - show submission or fear
flounder - move clumsily or struggle

This article speaks about the effects that fairytales have on children and the different ways that they help with development. For example, it explains that fairytales help children analyze and solve conflicts, find different ways to cope with difficulties, expand imagination, explore different emotions, and more. While talking about the more overall positive result of fairytales in education, it does also provide reasons that experts say may not be beneficial to learning if anyone was interested.

Before starting off with any type of activity, I would first discuss what makes up the different parts of fairytales and the characteristics that may be included in them!

One of the activities that I could introduce to my classroom (I did not incorporate this book in my text set), is a Jack and the Bean Stalk Measurement activity. In all reality, I would introduce this book to my classroom setting first so that they can understand why we are measuring the height of a bean stalk. This activity can encourage math skills!

By using this activity, students can gain literacy skills by understanding the number of syllables in different words. By using sea animals to refer to the number of syllables in each animal type, it can coincide with The Little Mermaid to continue the fairytale theme.

This flower part activity can be used for science purposes! Students can perform experiments using a rose to refer to "The Beauty and the Beast." Leaving the roses to sit in the water with food dye will color the rose petals the same color as the food coloring.

If I were looking for an alternative of the revised version of "The Beauty and the Beast" that I chose for my text set; "The Dragon Prince: A Chinese Beauty & the Beast Tale," I could use this activity to make a Chinese dragon to celebrate the book's culture, which would fulfill the art portion of a lesson plan.

I feel as though there were many standards that were suitable for my unit. A couple of those standards include 1.3 PK.F: Craft and Structure-Vocabulary and 1.3 PK.H: Integration of Knowledge and Ideas-Text Analysis.
