Wondering if there could be some changes to school lunches to advocate for more variety of fresh fruit and veggie options. Wheat bread instead of white bread to be used. Less carbohydrates and more protein in the entree and sack lunches. Homemade granola bars or protein balls made with sun butter, oats, honey ect. instead of prepackaged. Any of these little changes could offer big impact on nutritional value of meals and kids sustained energy to learn at school.

There is research that shows that plastic straws have a negative impact on our environment. However, we supply them in the cafeteria. Some students use them appropriately, while others just play with them. Either way, the straws are wasteful because they go in the trash, not recycling.

It is actually very concerning the amount of plastic we use in the cafeteria that gets thrown away.

I'd love to see an improvement in how students manage their own belongings and the resources provided by our school. How can we change children's mindsets to "take good (BETTER) care of all the things around them"? I notice very wasteful behaviors with things like pencils (picking off/eating?? erasers), overuse of glue and tape, and even misusing the waste bins (recycling non-recyclable trash [i.e., dirty tissues] and not recycling recyclable trash [paper & plastic]). And have you seen our Lost & Found, or noticed the things left behind on the playground and in other spaces?? If we're reciting the CLAYMO Promise each day, shouldn't we be living it?!?

When you walk through the school, there are many people working hard. Some are in class, learning new things, while others are answering phones or trying to focus on their work. If we walk loudly or talk loudly during these times, it can make it really hard for everyone to concentrate and do their best work.

By being extra quiet when moving through the halls, especially near the office, you help everyone have a peaceful and productive day. You also show kindness and respect to your teachers, staff, and fellow students who are all working on their tasks.

Remember, your quiet footsteps can make a big difference in helping others do their best. Let’s all do our part in keeping our school calm and focused!

I teach 5th grade in the afternoon and often my 5th graders complain about feeling hungry. I’m curious about the school lunch portions? Are they the same for all kids? It seems like 5th graders would need more calories than 1st graders. Also, some kids have major growth spurts in 5th grade. My sons were bigger than most of their classmates and school lunch often left them feeling hungry. Do all kids get the same amount of food? How can kids be educated and empowered so they understand how much of their lunch they need to to eat so they can learn & grow. Let’s make sure we are feeding our hungry fifth graders!

I heard someone say that listening to a book is not the same as reading a book. But the truth is, listening to books is just as good for our brains as reading books. Our library has lots of wonderful print books but many less audiobooks. Some books that students need to use for learning aren’t available as audiobooks in our school libraries. Most of our classrooms don’t have a listening library. To get a play away, you have to leave your classroom library and visit the school library & the selection is limited. Increasing access to audiobooks would make reading more equitable and joyful!

Neighborhood outreach by picking up gumballs in the yards of the elderly. Ask ourselves, how can we contribute to our school neighborhood community? Change our culture so that every person always cleans up completely after themselves, leaving no trace, no matter where we are: playground, lunchroom, bathroom, classroom. Never leave our mess for anyone else.
