Since Greece was an peninsula and was surrounded by seas, trading, fishing, and traveling was a lot easier and could get rich easily. This also but ship building in demand so the could get even more money. Greece also had many mountains separating areas creating polis or city-states. This also made unifying the area with one ruler hard. Greece may have mostly used the seas as a source of food, but they also farmed. Also, they had mountains and water that helped protect their civilization from intruders, but it wasn't as good as China. They mountains even separated Greece city-states or polis from one another.
