OCTOBER DPS JOURNAL

it's been hard to find time after work when I arrive at home after a long day at the office. this 9-5 job its good for the money but at the same time I thought that by having a routine I would be more efficient with time management, but I just became more restless and unmotivated. I just want to rest when I'm not working and when I have off on weekends I want to chill and enjoy with my loved ones.
I am struggling finding a balance with this new job and applying for internships that are not going to pay me the same amount I am getting on this full time job.

finished editing my website/ portfolio

done a few mock ups of cover letter as I had seen that most of places to apply were also requesting cover letters

research on agencies in Amsterdam that were either independent or with the work I like and relate

linkedin application with junior design intenship

working full time at The Office Group - mon to Friday

need to find hours after work to continue with applications and dps work

need to watch dps recorded sessions as it is at the same time I at work
check the live briefs and talk with Sarah about how to work if it is sometime as my full time-job on the briefs

research also companies in London even tho ams is main focus >>>>>

went to an event - NICER TUESDAY at Earth - by it's nice that and it was really good for networking and hearing stories from different creative practitioners
it motivated me to continue and enjoy the process of learning.

- did not get answer.

it is very frustrating not knowing what are their thoughts on your work, for sure if not replied it's because it is not good enough. this lack of empathy ( I understand it is big companies) in not even sending an automated message that application has not been successful.
this anxiety of every 5 min checking email inbox to see if there is any contact from them is painful. I wish I did not stress over it so much.

my mental health is not at its best, I am happy I got a job that is giving me money I have never received before but also, am I going to anytime soon be doing anything creative? that I feel myself?

sent a for to erik kassels to see if I can get a meeting with him to ask for an internship.

I feel that after the interview with Rens from Kesselskrammer I got really upset with myself and this unmotivated me to believe on my work or what I was doing. at the same time I had a nice interview with him, he gave me time and freedom to talk about my work and seemed very interested in what I was talking.

analysing his feedback I can see that I tried a big shot for my current skills and what I want to do, but it was worth it to at least have an opportunity of an interview with him.

soon it is my bday and I feel that this month has been a bit more stressful than usual and my mental health is not coping with my motivation for keeping getting aired or rejection emails.

I have not applied to many companies yet but my flatmate gave me a contact of a British creative director based in amsterdam that could help me network with some people. company

- had a call with Colin and he sent me a list of companies of to apply in amsterdam
it was very good to have a call with him, I felt that he was genuinely trying to help me and told me that it is okay to feel lost at this stage therefore internships are there. .

from the 7- 28 travelling to Brazil

my niece is turning 3 years old and as she was born during covid, this is going to be her first birthday party for friends and family. I am her godmother and wouldn't miss it! I managed to get holidays from my full time which is a bless.
hopefully in Brazil I could network with friends of friends that I am seeing in São Paulo that I am big fan of their work.
excited to go to São Paulo and tourist around, it is a city very comparable to London but rougher lol I wanna go to so many exhibitions and specially to MASP, I love that building in middle of Avenida Paulista.

Tom is doing some work for Burritos Band and today he was hired to make some marketing content for Rotary Club.

I feel it would be great to colaborate with him, assist him with anything as I could use it for my freelancer.
as I have never worked with branding/ marketing for client it would be a good opportunity to learn and see if I enjoy the process, specially cuz Tom is autonomous, self employed.
how to get clients? how to expand your portfolio?

working with tom helping him with vectoring his illustrations, editing colours, writing and stuff been fun
I feel I enjoy working more with adobe illustrator, I used to be quiet afraid because of being used with photoshop and even thou it has its similarity, for me it looked harder.

I feel I am more confident working with illustrator and would like to explore more the 3d tool.

alisa put me in contact with Lyuba, an artist she is friends with and saw that she posted on insta that she needed an intern. she is based in Amsterdam which makes it even better :)

I have contacted her and she told me she'd be back later this month after a work trip to Bangladesh.

we had a video call and luckily I had booked before without knowing I was gonna meet her, a ticket to go to AMS to meet a friend that was travelling from USA.
I told her I'd be there for us to have a coffee and talk better about possibilities.

I met her in Amsterdam, we had a coffee by the canal together and I liked her so much, she is such a character! someone super interesting that I know for sure I am gonna expand, and learn a lot with her.
she is a multidisciplinary artist, she works with mysticism and fairy tales, I love all of this, all of this hidden, philosophy, that connects so much with feminism,the universe.

I am really excited to start working with her. unfortunately as I am passed 6 months on my full time job I need to give a month notice so I am only able to start my internship with her from late March, but I am excited cuz I am gonna spend summer in Amsterdam and interning for her also.

sip: now that I am back from holidays in Brazil I need to focus on getting work from sip done
I am still on the research process, I need to have footage, material to work on so I can produce my final design

this month is a crazy one, I have decided to make a life changing move and am moving to amsterdam so soon,
I cant wait to be finished with my receptionist job but I am gonna miss a lot my friends I worked with. even though it was not my dream job I learned a lot with it, and the best was the friendships I made for life.

I have work with Stella and Gigi which is amazing, it is great to collaborate with friends. we need to support each other and motivate ourselves.

I had a lot of fun working with Stella for her project based on fashion activism and it was a great experience to work with typography, I was always really interested but never done a project based on it. I felt like an opportunity that I could not say no. even though a lot of things happening in my life, I need to prioritise what is important. this is personal growth.

I want to work on typography projects because I feel like I have more to explore and am fascinated by it, even more now after trying to design something.

working with Gigi been really fun, reminds me of my days studying fashion and working with photoshoots. I have interned for a fashion designer earlier on my foundation years and it was a great experience.
coming back to Gigi, he did the photoshoot at his place. he had some red fabric he put-on the wall. I had a ring light, he styled the model with some of my clothes, specially my favourite coat ever <3 blue vegan leather quilted coat from House of Sunny, the most stunning piece I have haha
I love how he plays with sexuality on this photoshoot, it is dark, sassy but it has a very sensible eye.
he is such a talent, I am proud of him so much and it is funny to see how he does not believe in himself. I see this pattern on myself as well, and other creative friends. what happens?
is it a problem of our generation? comparing ourselves so much because of exposition in social medias?
afraid to make mistakes?
this really bothers me but I can not help but feel this judgement from myself, which is even worse.

working on the editing of the photoshoot was fun, I really like working with photoshop, I feel I need to study more codevelop more skills.

working with Lyuba been great, it is such an opportunity I am having to be in Amsterdam working with such a great artist.
I feel everything fell in place and the pathway I choose, the choices I made took me where I should be.

mystical dinner is the project we are working on and after the first day of meeting for planning the structure of the work, I felt so professional lol.
being briefed and plannig how to do the work on the gallery.

first day at the gallery was amazing, what a space! it is located on a corner, it has a triangular space and the ceilings are so high.
I am in charge of the installations which are long pieces of fabric hanging from the ceiling.
I am loving it! never thought of working with material so big scale like this and its been a real exciting experience.

the dinner is performed in 3 acts: heaven
hell
quotidian
the gallery is only two rooms so we have to make the first and 3rd act on the main room, which means we gonna have to change the installations at the event.
sounds exciting

pretty much everyday going up and downn the ladder with pins, silver tape, hammer and nails. been so cool putting up the installations. good thing im not scared of heights lol

event is going fine so far, it is the first one so it is quite raw but super interesting concept.

food is really good, they got vegan options

event with Lyuba went great, it was good to see how it was "birth". the process of putting up the show, the gallery space, the event itself and the putting down the show.
the event still very new and there is a lot to improve but I feel that I already learned a lot. seeing the struggles of an independent artist, her frustation of not having the money she thought would get, how everything depends on you, she could not get a funding from gov but that not stoped her to do her work. It is very inspiring.

we are now planning and going to start the preparatio for her next event called: infinite transitions- mystical game.

it is a interactive, life embracing journey that she is going to perform with her audience.
we already start planning photoshoot at the beach Zandvoort when weather is better, we going to use those pics for promotion on social medias.

we have already done some set photography for insta on Ooosterpaark, and some crop shots at the playground in front of her studio.

we went to the beach to the photoshoot, it was so organic and fluid. everything went really smooth and we really liked the results, apart from assisting her with the photoshoot I was also one of her models. good thing that the costumes would leave u anonymous cuz I am camera shy.

and test variety of possibilities

designs of the cards are turning really nice, I am really happy w the work I am producing, gotta keep this motivation!
