The longer the second the more out of focus and bright your picture will come out. The shorter the second the darker will come out. According to my pictures the one with the one second shutter speed was the brightest because of light that came into picture and it was very out of focus. Where as the fastest shutter speed was a lot darker and in focus. You would typically use fast shutter speed for a freeze action kind of picture, like if you were to take a picture of a bird.
