The Walking Dead is an American series based on the comics of the same name by Robert Kirkman. The series stars Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes.

The Walking Dead premiered on October 30, 2010 on the AMC cable television channel in the United States. The series premiered internationally during the first week of November 2010, hosted on Fox International Channels.

The Walking Dead tells the story of a small group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse, or "walkers," as the characters call them. Most of the story takes place on the outskirts of Atlanta and then around the rural northern region of Georgia. Survivors are seen to seek refuge and a safe place away from the hordes of undead who devour people and whose bite is infectious to humans. Survivors have limited knowledge about what is really happening in the world. The plot of the series is focused primarily on the dilemmas facing the group, such as the struggle to stay alive, the confused feelings and the challenges of everyday life in a hostile world virtually dominated by the undead. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who served as deputy sheriff in a small town before the zombie outbreak. In 2014, series executive producer David Alpert said the original comic gave producers enough ideas for Rick Grimes and company for the next seven years. He also knows where the 11th and 12th seasons will be.
