My parent's separation/divorce

I was three years old when my parents separated and in Kindergarten when they became divorced. I remember crying for my mom when I was with my dad and crying for my dad when I was with my mom. I learned at an early age how to compartmentalize my emotions. This was unhealthy, especially at such an early age.

My dad remarried

When I was seven years old, my dad remarried. My stepmother was very mean to me and we have never gotten along. This was another situation in which I wasn't allowed to express the stress I was going through. Another lesson in compartmentalizing my feelings

I was abused

I was sexually abused in high school. I kept it a secret until my adult years. This was yet another time in which I was negatively learning what to do with my feelings and stress.

I moved out of my mom's house

My mom and I fought constantly and I did not want to follow her rules. I decided that I would move out right after high school and live on my own. This developed into making a lot of negative choices, which included relationship choices.

My divorce

After 16 years of marriage, I filed for divorce. We have two teenage children. I was being emotionally abused, as well as some physical abuse. I remained silent for years until I decided I could not take it anymore. I finally learned from so many times of remaining silent in my past.
