They didn’t need a reason.
Not really.

Joseph spoke Brazilian Portuguese. Jake spoke only English. Their skin was different. Their accents were different. Their worlds were different.

And sometimes… people fear what they don’t understand.

Jake looked at Joseph with a cold stare and said,
“I don’t like you.”

Joseph’s eyes darkened. He didn’t need a translation to understand what Jake meant.
He glared back and said,

Both boys sat up straight.
“Him?!” they shouted in unison.

Neither of them smiled back.

For days, their “group project” was awkward silence and scribbled notes.

So, what can we learn from Jake and Joseph?

That kindness speaks every language.
That skin color is just color — not character.
That the bravest question you can ask is also the simplest:

Someone who doesn’t speak like you, look like you, or play the same games…

Be brave.
Walk over.
Smile.
Say hello.
