I connected with Johnny in the way that if he were not a greaser, his sensitivity may not be perceived as a weakness. Hinton is a thrill ride of an adventure that puts teenagers in dangerous situations And relates it’s characters to teenagers all over the world. Fourteen year old Ponyboy is part of a trustworthy but sometimes violent gang. His life is turned completely upside down after a run in with the Socs leaves Ponyboy in a terrible situation, carrying new emotional weight along with his friend and gang member Johnny. I give this book 5 stars because it properly illustrates a teenager’s struggle with being an outsider and navigating life in a gripping way. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a great new book to read or struggling with not being accepted. If I could think of one thing I dislike about this book, it would be Ponyboy’s terrible grammar, but I also like how it illustrates Ponyboy‘s speech.
