This activity helps support children develop phonemic awareness by building their ability to recognize letter sounds. The children were given a bin of objects and had to identify which container they belong to based on the sounds in their name. This activity helps the children practice object identification, sound recognition, and categorizing things. The kids seem to enjoy this activity since it is hands on and they can visually see what they are doing.

In the lesson Ms. Applegate is teaching the student a phonemic awareness strategy. She is having the student sound out the word given to them, break down the sounds and say them out loud, then she had her write down the letters she heard. By doing this Yaseena was able to understand how to sound out a word and figure out how to spell it. Ms. Applegate did not fix Yaseena’s mistakes and instead had her sound out the word again and find the mistake on her own.

It is important for multilingual children to develop phonemic awareness skills so they can recognize sounds and letters that make up the English language. Practicing the sounds each letter makes will help them pronounce words correctly and make it easier for them to read. The students will be used to different letter sounds based on their first language so it’s important to practice English letter sounds with them so they can pronounce the words clearly.

This activity helps support children's phonemic awareness by helping them identify sounds and recognize the letters in front of them. I think the kids responded very well. It was a very engaging and hands-on activity that kept the students entertained while also learning more about sound recognition and identification of the letters.

This makes it easier for them to learn how to read and spell in all the languages they know. It also helps them notice how sounds are different or the same between languages.

This helps them practice hearing beginning sounds and connecting them to objects, which builds their understanding of how words work. The kids responded really well—they were excited, focused, and seemed to enjoy the activity because it was hands-on and let them see and touch the objects while learning.

Each child was given a different bin with a blend or sounds on it and they had to pick the objects from the middle that belonged in the their bin or give it to the child that had the correct bin. After they had to say the word of each item they had in their bin to see if they rhymed. The children seemed to really enjoy this activity especially with it being hands on.

In this lesson Ms. Applegate is teaching Yaseena phonemic awareness strategy. Ms. Applegate told Yaseena the word she wanted her to write asking how how many syllables she heard, for each syllable she drew a line to write a letter on. Then she said the word herself and wrote letters down on the lines as she thought she heard. Doing this helps Yaseena understand the sounds and how to spell each word. On the first one instead of just correcting the mistake, Ms. Applegate resaid the word and had Yaseena sound the word out again.

The teacher starts with the ending -et and asks the students to make new words with those endings. She says, "make et say let." Then she calls on a student and they spell let. She continues going through more words and she is also saying each word slowly so that the students can hear clearly how they could spell each word. I think the teacher is doing this very well and the children are responding well to it. They seem to be understanding each word and how it is part of the "et family." This activity seems to be a great way to see if the students are understanding phonics.

Within this activity, teachers will receive help in teaching phonics by showing how screening and diagnostic assessments inform instruction tailored to the students’ needs. The teacher explains when to use each type of assessment, and then she connects results directly to teaching phonemic awareness and decoding. The teacher models instructional planning and then explains and emphasizes the importance of starting instruction with the student right away. The children benefit because this approach makes sure, they are receiving targeted phonics practice at the right level.

The teacher in this video is helping these children by making each sound in the words stand out so that these kids can recognize what sound each letter makes. Like how she says ball and pot. By having strong phonemic awareness skills, it can help them notice differences between the English language and their own. It can also give them confidence in their pronunciation and their reading.
