September 29- Alphabet Knowledge

Before watching the videos I was scared that I would not be able to fully get my students to understand
Alphabet Knowledge. But after watching the videos, I know know that there are several different ways I can focus on a letter each week. Just like in the video of S is for scarecrow, I could pick books and make an emphasis on the sound of the letter (i.e. S-ammy) during the book. As well, I can then have them point items out that start with the letter we are learning about each week and then have the class repeat the word and look at the object another student is pointing at. I did enjoy her Scarecrow activity because it was cute and she did step by step instructions on to build a scarecrow and took it a step further and had them understand the shapes they were using as well as showing the class their picture and coming up with another word that start with the letter "S".

November 5- Diverse Learners

When in a classroom, we need to look for fairness, rules, directions, & time. We want to make sure that all students are treated the same and given the same rules to follow in the classroom but also have the rules be bent a little in order to help the diverse learners understand. As well, when giving directions, they should be short and simple with minimal steps in between. If we make them long then the students will become less engaged and willing to follow. Another thing is time, we need to make sure that students time is used wisely and efficiently while at school. If we focus on one catigoiry (I.e.math) for an hour instead of 20 minutes of each subject, students will become disengaged and no focus on anything your saying.

(chapter 1;Jalongo)
