"Singapore is a really small island city-state. Within our 734 sqkm we will need to provide for all the things that a fully functioning country requires. At the same time, we need to meet the growing needs and aspirations of Singaporeans, who are becoming more diverse. We also want to provide space and opportunity for future generations to chart their own direction too. All of this requires us to take part in forward thinking, long term planning and careful stewardship of our limited land."

Singapore apportions 20% for military use. We need land space to conduct our training and sustainace of MINDEF. Without it, our military strength may be compromised.

As much as singapore wants to build the city's economic growth, to sustain as a country, we have to allocate land spaces for military uses. It is about finding the sweet spot as without military defence for the country, building a city will not even be possible

Careful urban planning with other agencies to meet requirements of society. It is also important to consolidate feedback routinely to keep track of societal demand trends

Without how singapore is now, a bustling city, the people will not feel safe or have the will to take care and protect it. It is human to naturally want to do better when we see progress and With different aspirations, there will be even more progress

From the economic perspective, every square metre of land needs to produce as much financial return as possible. Realistically, this is not feasible and difficult to balance with "liabilities" with financial outflows (parks, green spaces, water, etc)

The infrastructure must also cater for contingencies, such as MRT stations doubling as bomb shelters. What happens when water gets contaminated, central cooling fails, central disposal fails, etc.

Digital infrastructure requires a lot of energy for cooling requirements, which increases our energy demand. Do we have sufficient energy production for the next 50 years? Taking accouht into account of the increasing population and increasing temperatures.

If everything becomes too structured and centralised, we may end up in a "boring" city with "boring" people. Our beliefs may be diluted and we may not have "thought diversity" We may not have the will to stand firm on our beliefs.

It is important to have spaces and areas for people to bond and interact with each other. Such spaces can be gardens, common areas, etc. Through interacting and knowing each other, it builds trust.
