The project is a 2-day program aimed at integrating the socio-cultural centre within the local community. The goal is to have the community be the main stakeholders while also implementing programs that directly affect community needs.

Day 1 starts with a  press conference with representation from both the domestic and regional scene. Then there is a conference on civic-public partnership led by five key speakers, including two representatives from the SEE region and three from the Macedonian community. The speakers present their regional experiences and have an open dialogue with  local community participants. Day 1 concludes with an evening performance of an artist from a marginalized community, a preview of a film from a young director, and a DJ music set.

Day 2 consists of activities for engaging the local community, such as cooking classes, story-telling workshops, and a fundraiser campaign promoting a marginalized artist and supporting their artistic vision.

The project is a 3-day festival of contemporary and visual arts. The artistic fields taken into consideration are photography, cinema, and contemporary art. Each exhibition is connected through the common topic: the relationship between humankind and nature in the Anthropocene. The goal is to engage the local community of artists and citizens in the process of art-making and to help promote social inclusion and cohesion.

The contemporary art exhibition is an open call for artists, either studying at the Wroclaw Fine Arts Academy or for emergent local artists willing to express themselves on the topic. 

The photography exhibition has a diverse scope in vision, from one side, the local artists, and from the other side, children from local schools and youth centres. 

The cinema exhibition is based on an open contest for short films. For this exhibition, there is no age limit, no professional background needed, and no technical skills required, only creativity at its core.

This project is a public space for community members to gather. Community gardens are an excellent opportunity to educate children about the basics of gardening, vegetables, and herbs. 

This educational aspect would include understanding local plants that thrive in sensitive environments, as well as other vegetables and fruits transported from different countries, their history, origin in Lithuania, and carbon footprint. 

One section of the garden is dedicated to children (with adult supervision). The children will decide what to grow and will be responsible for caring for the plants. 

Preila is a small community with just a handful of families. Owning a garden is not an option for most families due to UNESCO status land restrictions.The implementation to project outcomes and goals are determined by the community members.

The project aims to organise seminars in providing information and training to professionals in regional cultural institutions on how to manage cultural institutions in times of crisis. These seminars include cultural management topics, creative topics, experiential stories, and case studies. 

Cultural centres in Latvia operate as cross-sectoral institutions, which specialise in a diversity of provided cultural services. Furthermore, they participate in the implementation of cultural policy priorities defined by the state.

These seminars aim to strengthen the professional development and capacity of Latvian cultural professionals. They also provide diverse knowledge and skills necessary for performing cultural work in Latvia and creating a cooperation project at the European and worldwide level.

The project is dedicated to the preservation of nature and the promotion of art as an engine of social change. The goal is to organize events that foster respect for all the cultures of our planet. Art is one of the great forms of human expression, a way to convey our emotions and an opportunity to find a safe space to transform them. 

The cultural centre conducts multiple activities, such as masterclasses for performing arts professionals, regular clown classes, retreats about creative immersion in nature, children's day camps, artistic residencies. It also offers training about caring for an organic garden, recognising medicinal plants and their uses, caring for an olive grove, producing organic olive oil, flamenco, and seminars on personal care and contact with nature.

For this project, we have been collaborating with local municipalities, partner associations, NGOs, and individual community members to develop a long-term initiative for managing the future of the House of Klajn cultural centre. The goal is to create a community-driven cultural and art residence centre, such as activating local craftspeople, initiatives, and individuals with whom we aim to create a sustainable life cycle of the centre. 

The next phase focuses on developing strategies and models for including the community in the further development of the centre. Community involvement is crucial throughout the three developmental phases, resulting in the opening of an inclusive space for creation, performance, education, and living. 

In May 2021, the centre is organising a workshop with young architects and urbanists called ‘From the House's Perspective'. Workshop participants will explore new identities of the centre, based on its past, its importance in the community, and its future operating models in relationship with the citizens of Klanjec, Croatia. 

The general goal is to create a framework for the community to be involved in all three main phases of co-creation of the House, from defining the aim to proposing the method to evaluating the results.

Our centre has a screen printing workshop, a photo lab, and a sewing workshop. Its Faserwerk project offers an open space for experimentation and testing, which is co-managed by participants. 

For 2021, the project, ‘Faser-Werk-Stadt,’ focuses on redesigning urban space and practical approaches to sustainability in fashion. Fashion is an everyday aspect of culture, central in the way we express ourselves, an important cultural asset, and a means of expressing creativity. However, there is still much work to be done in the recycling and reuse of textiles. 

Clothing waste is at an all-time high, with roughly one million tons of clothes ending up in landfills every year. According to the German Sustainability Council, the clothing industry causes more greenhouse gases than all international flights and ships combined. 

The Faserwerk offers a sustainable and regional approach to dealing with textiles. The second-hand store and the sewing workshop give clothing a second life. Instead of being thrown away, clothes are recycled, reused, repaired, and exchanged.

The REAL WORLD LAB project is a cooperation between the social activation hub BASIS Vinschgau Venosta and Eurac Research – Institute for Regional Development. The project aims to explore how local cultural platforms can be a tool for placemaking on a local and international level. 

It is based on placing an embedded researcher on location at BASIS for three months. Thisresearcher, specialised in cultural management and innovation studies, explores BASIS centre and its role as a catalyst for sustainable change. 

The community-based activities offered by BASIS implement practical tools that empower citizens, allow intercultural and intergenerational exchange, and encourage the use of artistic language to help express and share thoughts.

This project involves a community garden initiated by three families during the first lockdown. The initiative captured the interest of other community members who also contributed their time, tools, and seeds.

This fostered new social interactions and connections, and inspired the centre to develop a community garden concept. The aim is to sustain a community-based garden, a safe and inclusive ecosystem of co-creation and experimenting that supports marginalised youth and elderly community members. Our idea is to create a space for growth, learning, and opportunities for communication and intergenerational dialogue.

The project combines live educational material and the gardening process of co-creation by introducing the basics of gardening and a step-by-step guide to permaculture, sustainable gardening, exchanging knowledge of crops and harvesting, recycling and composting, sharing successes and failures. Based on the lessons learned in the frame of the project, we plan to publish a practical guide to small-scale, integrative farming and gardening.

This project engages the community by collecting local biodegradable waste, such as coffee grounds and garden litter like leaves, plants, and peels of fruits, and composting it.

The first phase involves organising an informational meeting for the citizens of Etterbeek, a neighbourhood of Brussels, where an expert will provide insight on how to compost. We provide participants with a special container bucket. From there, they can put their waste in the compost container every day. The community’s compost contribution helps nourish a community garden.

The second phase of the plan is creating a space where the garden’s produce can be harvested and eaten by the community members.

The Boom Café is a horizontally-run nonprofit socio-cultural space in the centre of Brussels. It stands up for sustainable agriculture and fair trade projects, as well as solidarity and reciprocity.

The Café is called the Boom (tree in Dutch) in honour of the resistant tree that welcomes us on its terrace. The aim is to provide a space for non-monetary exploration, for artists and others to find a place to grow and share their work again. With the Warm Alarm project, the goal is to raise awareness about the causes, consequences and solutions of global warming. This involves an artistic program of theatre performances, lectures, exhibitions, podcasts, audiovisual installations, and walks. 

The earth is warming at a rapid rate. Therefore, we want to raise people's awareness but also activate people. Warm Alarm's goal is twofold. Firstly, make the people of Leuven aware of sustainability through the arts, secondly, inspire them to take action by becoming a member of Leuven 2030. 

Leuven wants to become climate-neutral by 2030. Climate-neutral means that there are no longer any emissions of greenhouse gases on the territory of Leuven. Warm Alarm wants to make this necessity and urgency of a plan like Leuven 2030 visible from the perspective of the arts.

The “Respect the Difference'' festival project includes creative workshops, events, and musical performances to highlight people’s social-cultural differences. The workshops are designed specifically for children with mobility challenges and autism. The events are suitable for all family members, while the music creates a festive atmosphere for students and adult participants.

The Peri Viou centre is creating human-centered interactive research to support this inclusive festival, looking also at accessible special transportation services for non-typical children.The results will be used to develop a toolkit that will be disseminated nationally.

Out of the Box proposes to send two shipping crates of commissioned art pieces to curators in Eastern and Western Europe. The local team will prepare these works for an exhibition, which will be free of charge to the public. The senders of the artworks are invited to attend the event digitally, with a guided tour through the exhibition. 

By jointly working on this project with art spaces across Europe, we strive to grow future-oriented artistic co-operations using our local gallery as a starting point to build cross-national alliances between international communities. The centre's mission is to contribute to international understanding in youth development, education, and culture. For this project, it has made available a plot of land on its private car park to develop a community garden.

Beyond the local action of reappropriating urban space by its inhabitants, the community garden creates social links within the district through ecological commitment. Many cultural events, such as concerts, exhibitions, theatre performances, and music sessions, have also been developed. These events help to create awareness for the community garden, but also to attract new volunteers and unite the local community.

The garden is a public space with no membership requirements. It develops according to the commitment and participation of the actors who are present, though two staff members from the centre coordinate part of the internal administration. Decisions are made through a  direct democracy process, and gardening and harvesting tasks are shared within the community. The gardeners are self-organised in various working groups and meet regularly for various joint actions to animate, grow and transform the garden.

This project involves the organisation of a CO2-free Festival in Hamburg, Germany, including the purchase of E-Bikes, a solar power system, tables, chairs, and a big circus tent.

We created an online map of the biggest problems in terms of sustainability in the area, such as issues dealing with bicycle lanes, tree cutting, or traffic. We also organise a repair café, where people can bring their broken items to be repaired for free. Related activities include book and magazine exchanges, food sharing, and upcycling. In the summer, we organise workshops for young adults about the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals.

The project seeks to facilitate a residency for artists. Six industrial containers have been transformed into studio spaces for creative people and groups working with culture. The studio cluster is located on The City Island, a small area on the harbour, formerly dedicated to industrial activity. Here, artists of different backgrounds will work together, reinforcing an inclusive environment. 

We acknowledge the importance of social health as one of the three main aspects of health (physical, psychological, and social). Moreover, our approach to theatre is focused on body movement. We aim to accomplish this by having an inclusive approach where artists and non-artistic people can meet and spend time together. The residents will be engaged in informal activities related to performing arts, as well as crafts and visual art. Our goal is to create an open, participatory space where everyone feels welcome and free to explore their creativity.

The project aims to create a new type of wicker woven hanging tree nests for humans protected from rain, in which volunteers and guests of our cultural center could live and store their belongings.

Wicker is an ecological, renewable material. The roofs of the nests will be covered with recycled waterproof material. The nests will be innovative, sustainable, functional and beautiful sleeping places for visitors and volunteers of the centre. 

  

The project will be an example of how to implement new functional solutions in a green space with maximum respect for nature. The use of solar energy will be promoted.

For the group of volunteers involved in the process of creating the nests, it will be a time of learning plant-weaving techniques, experiencing the possibilities of recycled materials and reflecting on the (un)balance of our human needs and they transform the environment around us.

The aim of the project is two-fold. On one hand, the organization wants to inspire local artists to experiment with a relatively new material, recycled plastic. We believe that already-existing plastic has a high potential to be used in the arts field.

On the other hand, Circolo Cas’Aupa wants to raise community awareness on environmental sustainability, and inform the people living in our neighbourhood that a simple act of recycling can be the first step of an artistic creation process. 

A gathering of artists from the region Friuli-Venezia Giulia and international ones is expected to take part in an artistic residency and experiment in our Lab to create art installations and other artistic objects in collaboration with the local school and the local community. 

All the creations produced during the residency will be exposed in the centre Cas’Aupa during the Plasticart Week, a multidisciplinary event taking place this summer including, beside the exhibition, talks on plastic and circular economy, a workshop on upcycling targeting local artisans, and social events like a plastic-free “aperitivi”.

GREENFRAME is a vertical garden that changes the texture of Brussels, by making use of existing unused walls to produce fresh food in limited spaces. Using recycled materials, flexible techniques and neighbourhood participation, it is a sustainable project that will change the life of people and urban food production.

Modern cities are suffering from decaying post-industrial sites, linked to growing global population and urban saturation. City life will be unsustainable and unhealthy for a majority of people in the future, due to pollution, poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle. 

There is an urgent need to reconnect existing architecture with nature. GREENFRAME converts unused facades into productive centres for local residents, increasing urban vegetal coverage and improving social cohesion, quality of life and well-being. The Broumov Educational and Cultural Centre mission is to encourage individual responsibility to oneself, others, and the surrounding environment to strengthen awareness of our place in the world and our responsibility to it.

Most people do not realize the significance of the heritage they have just around the corner. Our organization educates young people about the importance of environmental protection, and natural heritage protection in particular, through game playing.

The “Travelling around the Ispani Mires” educational game aims to promote the importance of a natural heritage site by bringing up the following issues:

The project aims to give a new purpose to an abandoned building, to offer a platform where everyone can express themselves freely, share knowledge and experience culture.

It involves a series of diverse activities aimed at raising the awareness of both the staff of the centre and the local population about the negative impact our lifestyles  are making on the environment. That impact will be described and measured through specific actions.

A green rooftop with PV solar panels will be installed in our cultural center and will provide thermal insulation and reduction of carbon footprint through photosynthesis. 

All of these activities will be organised as workshops and tutorials, with video documentation published on our video platforms, so that they remain visible for the future and for a wider audience.

The Creative Workshops are places where people can access tools and equipment usually not available in households and learn how to use them, thanks to a wide offer of courses and the guidance of experts and volunteers. This allows to extend the lifespan of objects and to prevent waste. 

The part of the Creative Workshops dedicated to bicycles plays an important role in promoting sustainable mobility, as it makes it easier and more affordable to maintain bicycles, in a neighbourhood with a high percentage of low-income families, most of them with a migrant background. 

"Special bikes" will also be available for shared use, such as cargo bikes that are quite expensive. 

The repair shop will also host workshops related to sustainable mobility, promoting bicycles as a means of transport both for work and leisure purposes.

Centrala Cycles is a project promoting mobility improvements within the migrant community, with a strong focus on Central and Eastern European groups which are marginalised and isolated in the UK. 

The organization wants to offer a 3-step project to promote cycling. The first step is creating an informative and visually exciting map of cycling routes connecting Centrala and other art venues in central Birmingham. A lot of them are alongside the canals, which will give participants the opportunity to engage with local natural resources in a very post-industrial city landscape. 

The second step is commissioning a visual campaign with a series of cycling-related graphics, which will then be shared through our social media.

The final step will be programming a series of bike rides and bike maintenance workshops.

The 3-year-old "Culture for Climate" initiative is an integral part of the SURVIVAL Art Review. For nine years, the Survival Art Review has made inaccessible places open to visitors.

"Culture for Climate" is a space for confronting scientific and artistic views on various areas of climate change. The project aims to take a deeper look at the topic of sustainable mobility, especially during the restrictive policies of a global pandemic. Do-it-yourself Workshops will teach participants how to create their own products while raising their awareness to buy from local farmers and producers for sustainable development. 

Dance Fullness Classes will bring attention to the moment and to the body as a way to invest in ourselves, developing self-awareness and a deep consciousness of self-ecology, that will be translated into more sustainable beings.

The project aims to raise awareness about circular economy in local organizations and communities in Prizren, Kosovo. The activities of the project include drafting Lumbardhi’s Circular Economy Action Plan and organizing two workshops with diverse local audiences on the topic of Circular Economy. The action plan will cover immediate, mid-term and long-term measures to be taken by the organisation to instill a circular economy discourse and practice in our day-to-day operational activities. 

It will provide staff members with capacity building on the use of recyclable materials and waste reduction and management. 

Additionally, a monthly reading club on Circular Economy will be organised to discuss and deliberate on concepts and approaches. 

A two-day workshop is planned for children of 6-10 years where participants will learn about circular economy. This event will also include  a DIY workshop. 

A second workshop, on the topic of Circular Economy, is planned with the Prizren Network of Cultural organisations and other partners. Participant organisations will identify ways of lowering the carbon footprint of their working hours  and bringing sustainability to daily operations.

The aim of the project is to involve the local community to create scenic elements and decorations for the annual Cēsis festival as well as to encourage people to think more about sustainability and the importance of recycling. We aim to significantly reduce waste left by big events in the city and this project is one small step towards that goal.

Cēsis Cultural Centre will organize activities to create a decorated area in the city. Local communities, schools, organizations, entrepreneurs as well as individuals will be invited to make their own flag, following the Centre’s tutorial. The elements for flag construction will be taken from old or damaged furniture, residual wood or used packaging. Every flag will be sewn together in long chains, which will decorate the city during summer festivities.

Workshops will be organized in cooperation with local colleagues and professional designers and craftsmen. During this activity the local community will be involved in the preparation process in one of the significant festivals of the city. The ECO TOY project is a series of free online do-it-yourself workshops for adults – e.g. parents, grandparents, guardians or teachers. As part of the workshops, participants will create soft, aesthetic, ecological toys that are safe even for the youngest children – a set of 8 fruits and vegetables made of fabric, including a basket for their storage. 
These are educational toys that are very helpful  in teaching children about healthy diets, ecology and reducing food waste. 
The creator and host of the workshops is an experienced craftswoman specializing in hand sewing, especially designing and sewing toys from recycled materials.

Precious Plastic Albania is a DIY-recycling workshop. A set of small-scale plastic recycling machines were built based on open source plans that allow everyone to become a designer and recycler through simple training. The initiative engages the neighbourhood, businesses and school groups to reduce and separate waste while sourcing recyclable plastic to create everyday items and provide free recycling workshops. 

Precious Plastic Albania is the first DIY-recycling workshop in Albania, and the first one in the whole region that travels to rural communities. The mix of creative education and recycling has proven to be new to the ecosystem they operate in. 

Through this initiative, information about environmental damages and life cycles of plastic are shared, inspiring DIY-production and repairs are shown, infrastructure and most importantly individual behaviour are redesigned.

Scuola Civica Alma d’Arte is a cultural centre, international training space and venue for performing arts located in Motta, in the south of Italy.

The project Alma d’Arte Atelier: Crafting the Commons aims to support and strengthen the circular economy and its impact on the community.

The Atelier will integrate actions in a physical space devoted to creative reuse and recycling, with tools and machinery completely available, free of charge, to the community. Produs la Centrala is a project aiming to make sustainable and extend the mission of the art residency in the hotel Slănic Moldova, to debate the climate crisis in the unprecedented context we experience now and to seek creative solutions for collective resistance and action. 

Located in the former thermal power plant of the Venus Hotel in Slănic-Moldova, Produs la Centrala is now a centre of creativity, contemporary art and upcycling workshop, where volunteers and active members of our community manufacture unused and wasted fabrics, diverting them from ending up in the land field. It promotes ecological research, education and debates on issues related to public health, quality of life, sustainable development and community.

The project aims to extend the ecological activities, mostly because the centre’s community faces actual environmental challenges. The city of Velingrad is famous in Bulgaria for its nature and mineral water, but in the last few years, a large increase of unregulated landfills was observed. Definitely the municipality has unavailing policy and the civil society is not grown enough. What is needed is to raise awareness to these problems and to change the community’s bad habits.

Our project includes monthly repairing goods meetings, recycling workshops, awareness-raising lectures, gardening initiatives and new lines eco products in our “The Reading Room Café”.

Art education can offer children and young people ways to face the challenges of the future.
The project aims to produce a guidebook to a sustainable development of children's culture as an e-book in Finnish, Swedish and English. It would give instructions and tips on a durable development, climate change biodiversity and on the preservation of cultural environment in education, work, and hobbies.

The project is nationally significant and the guidebook will be available to everyone. The long lasting online guidebook will be presented at the National Children's Culture Forum in the European Environment Capital Lahti in November 2021.

Cook and Talk is a food sharing initiative of the cultural centre of Effendi Villa in Georgia. The act of eating together along with discussing the latest news and pressing issues has always been an essential ingredient of the Georgian society.

In the light of the forced social distancing and economic problems caused by the pandemic, we want to co-create a collective space of encounter in the cultural centre and support disadvantaged groups of people in the neighbourhood with food and a good talk. 

Cook and Talk project aims to introduce solidarity mechanisms in the community with respect to uniting its members and exploring new formats of social eating in the cultural centre.

The centre is based in North Belfast, one of the most socially and economically deprived areas of the city. Northern Ireland only recycles around 50% of its waste, littering is widespread in the streets surrounding the Duncairn and the area offers very few green spaces. As things are, it is urgent to take action raising public awareness around these issues and involving the community to create a better future for Belfast urban environment and its dwellers. 

Through our actions and awareness raising programme, we believe that we can play a fundamental role in the community, encouraging people to turn to the circular economy. 

To do so, a Wildflower Weekend is planned. During the weekend, the local community will come together to participate in creative workshops. Participants will be able to explore the circular economy, plant a wildflower meadow and herb garden on our grounds, and get their stuff repaired and upcycled at the Repair Café and workshops.

Circular Arts Network (CAN) is a circular economy tool created to support the arts. It is designed to be a ‘go-to’ location that helps people working in the arts reuse and recycle easily; while also supporting other sectors to recycle their excess materials in a different way. CAN is a cross-artform resource, we welcome users from all creative communities, including stage, screen, music, visual arts, dance, craft etc.

CAN receives donations of materials and resources from large cultural organisations as well as industries such as Construction and Manufacturing, and presents an opportunity for these sectors to redistribute surplus and waste materials for reuse within arts communities, achieving both sustainability and social impact ambitions.

CAN is administered by Sculpture Placement Group (SPG), a Community Interest Company based in Scotland. SPG finds ways to make cultural resources last longer, benefit more people and be more sustainable.

MOCI Platform aims to connect rural, cultural and social actors in the Balkans to share and exchange knowledge, to co-create open educational resources in local languages, accessible for everyone. 

Our open resources will be focused on the fields of sustainable placemaking, environmental actions, community engagement methods on local levels as well as cultural and artistic tools for everyone.

Additionally, the platform gives space to rural and cultural actors to expose themselves and their works to a decentralized audience, overcoming digital and physical divides and creating rural-urban linkages as well as cross-border exchange of best practices and solutions for shared challenges and needs.

The project aims to give a new purpose to an abandoned building, to offer a platform where everyone can express freely, share knowledge and experience various cultural content. 

In order to reduce its carbon footprint, a lawn will be planted on the roof. It will serve as high quality low cost thermal insulation, conserving a lot of heating energy during colder seasons. 

Part of the roof will also be reserved for a photovoltaic system that will power a DIY server, which will be used to build the website and upload digital content. 

Planting the lawn on the roof, setting up the PV panels, setting up the server, all of those activities will be organized through workshops and training.

Activities will be documented into video tutorials, which will disseminate these good practices world wide, directly from the created server.

This project aims to encourage and empower children and their parents to explore their physical and digital environments creatively. Through puppet-making and digital storytelling workshops, participants will learn to use recycled materials from their surroundings to create figurines and explore digital media tools and storytelling.

It will consist of three phases. During the first phase, the organization will consult with experienced children psychologists and the creative team to establish a proper approach to elaborating workshop materials. 

In the second phase, the organization will launch a promotional media campaign on the website and social media to gather the participants. 

During the third phase, participants will engage in puppet making and digital storytelling workshops led by psychologists and creative team members. 

Participants will learn to use social media to share their progress and the materials created during the workshop. This way, the initiative hopes to encourage other parents and children to consider using social media as a platform for collaborative learning while promoting children's psychosocial well-being.

The project will show how these urgent issues are addressed by contemporary artists. An artist's talk will cover the broader issues of environmental protection and the role artists can play in it.

There will also be a public workshop where participants will have the opportunity to create their own piece of art using local upcycled materials.

The organisation is currently hosting an exhibition about the global loss of biodiversity called ‘Toy Box / We Have to Try’. The project overtly calls to change our behaviour in favour of nature and sustainable development and is the kickoff for a broader campaign. 

Side events about comic strip creation accompanied the exhibition. Before closure due to the pandemic, there were also programmes scheduled to stimulate children’s creative thinking about biodiversity and its protection.

When opening their newly renovated cultural centre, the organisation made a massive call within the local community to donate used furniture. 
Their café space was created with these used items, and even their offices feature mostly second-hand desks and donated furniture. All the plants of the centre were donated as well, or purchased at an asylum for abandoned plants.
