This work was painted in 2007 by Banksy, in Palestine. Banksy is a famous anonymous Bristish artist. He belonged to the street art movement. He paints magnificent works wich often hide messages of peace, politics, racism... The painting i want to present you calls : « Armored Dove of Peace ». On this wall, we can see a dove with an olive branch in its beak, wich symbolizes peace. This bird is very special because it wears an armored vest. On its chest, there’s a target pointed at the heart of the bird, as if someone wanted it dead.

When Banksy painted this, he wanted to symbolize a conflict in Palestine and persistent terrorism.
I understand this painting as : even the symbol of peace must protect itself from human violence. And they want to kill the dove, prevent peace.

But this is the analysis of Banksy’s work according to a website : « Peace cannot be made when people involved do not want it ».

This work, called Man with dog" was painted around June 20, 2018 (World Refugee Day) by Banksy in Paris, in the Sorbonne University. He painted this in France because this country has poor management of the refugee crisis.
This graffiti is explicit. It represents a man, probably the dog's master and a dog. The man offers to the dog a bone, while hiding a saw, who could be usefull to kill the dog.
This graffiti represents what most gouvernments tend to do in the context of their migration policies.
In addition, the bone that the man hands to the dog seems to be the bone of the dog's paw.

Banksy is a famous street art artist from Bristol, England. He’s an artist, film director and political activist. He was born on July 28th 1973 and now lives in London. He always stays undercover without much evidence of what he really looks like.
The Girl with Balloon was done in 2002, it’s a series of stencil murals graffiti. It shows a young girl with her hand reaching towards a red heart-shaped balloon, while it’s getting carried away by the wind. The balloon represents freedom and childhood, you can view this in multiple ways but, seeing the girl catch the balloon can be interpreted as the arrival of hope or love. Or, seeing it as the girl loosing the balloon can be interpreted as a loss of innocence for her. This graffiti art was created on the walls of Waterloo Bridge at London’s Southbank. It is one of Banksy’s most recognizable art pieces.

It is one of the last murals of Banksy, «season’s greeting”.
It appeared on two walls of a private garage in the area of Taibach in Port Talbot, an industrial city of South Wales, considered among the most polluted areas of United Kingdom mainly due to the presence of old steel mills. The inhabitants are used to cleaning the ash away from the parked cars or the windows of their homes.

Precisely the steel mills, the ash and more generally the problem of pollution are the base of Banksy’s recent work.

At the beginning, Banksy paint a child intent on ‘tasting’ the fresh snow that falls joyfully with the sweet background of ‘Little Snowflake’, but then the field of vision widens and we see that it’s ash, not snow. The framing rises and the disturbing figure of the steelworks looming over the city appears in the background.

Reportedly, the artwork comes from a direct message that the artist received on Instagram from Gary Owen, 55, who invited the artist in August to ask him to highlight the dust problem of Port Talbot from the nearby steelworks. A way of demonstrating that Banksy is also trying to give voice to the problems of normal men, who live the burdens of our sick planet.

It was painted by Banksy, an anonymous British graffitist who has been making social commentary in public spaces since 1990. He has remained anonymous.
In the background, we can see a wall painted with pre-historic paintings. They represent animals and humans.
In the foreground, there is a council worker, erasing the pre-historic paintings. He is using a special chemical product. This procuct is often used by council workers to erase street arts.
The message behind this painting is that, by erasing street arts, they are still erasing art.
I like this painting a lot. I think the message behind it is really beautiful.
It also puts street arts at the same level as all arts, which is what all graffitists are looking for.

Chiara Malac 3eC
