My favorite article so far is called 'Teens are using TikTok to talk about difficult issues'. I like it because I feel like everyone always focuses on the negative sides of TikTok and how it needs to be banned and things like that. But there are some really positive things that have come out of it. And now it's a space where people can talk about things like mental health and social issues openly. -Akpezi O.

Emily Du - Grand jury rules officers who shot Breonna Taylor were justified in use of deadly force was my favorite article because it gave me insight on her death. It's angering that she was killed even though she was peacefully sleeping in her own house when police barged in and shot her even though the warrant they had were not even connected to anyone who lived in that house.

My favorite article right now is called "The Sound Of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury. The story is about a man from the future who goes on a government run safari to the past, but when he sees the dinosaur, he loses confidence in the fact that he can kill it, so he runs back to the time machine. On his way back to the machine, he steps off the marked path for just a minute, but this appears to have completely changed the future, causing a butterfly effect from the butterfly he accidentally killed off the path. It is really interesting because I love stories with time travel, but there is also a moral that little things can have big consequences.

For migrant kids, it takes bravery and hope to reach the U.S by Luz Lazo, Washington Post, published 10/15/2019~

This article talks about this 11 year old girl, Wendy, going through her family immigrating to the US. She talks about what they had to do to cross the border and once they crossed she talked about their journey. She mentions her fears and hopes. Later on in the article it continues to talk about other immigrants and the process of what they do. I can personally relate to this because my step-dad’s family immigrated here as well as my mom’s family. My step-dad always mentions how hard it was to go to a new school knowing only Spanish and how difficult it was for his mom. A few years ago he got his citizenship. I was with him throughout the whole process and he explained every detail to my sister and I.

My favorite article so far is “Teen siblings send cards to tell health care workers they’re heroes" because it talks about people appreciating other people. These health care workers put their lives at risk each and everyday doing their daily lives. I like this article because I think everyone should act like this because it makes everyone in a better mood and makes them feel appreciated for the things they do. I can relate to this because I do this myself, when my mom cooks me dinner I tell her thank you because I appreciate the fact that she took the time out of her day to make my food when she can tell me to go make food myself. I also do this to everyone like when family or friends give me a ride I say thank you because I appreciate that they were able to do that for me and I also think it is very ungrateful if someone doesn't thank someone doing something. Overall it is a great article and I would love for others to read it and see if it changes their perspective with how they act to others.

This is my favorite article because I feel this is necessary for the black community. The deaths of so many people due to police brutality and the overall racial discrimination against people have began many protests to go on. This is one of them.

The article is about how India was so focused on economic development and industry, they neglected the well-being of their citizens. After a study on happiness in the country, ans a high number of suicides in the country, this became a major concern for the government and they kind of just pressed pause on other problems to help improve the countries happiness. Its something I and many other students can personally relate to because of the whole pandemic. I agree with many things that is stated in the article. For example when they say 2 hours of screen time is just unrealistic. Sitting at home on a computer all day and being expected to only have 2 hours on your phone after school just makes no sense. Many students staying at home would agree with many things said in the article which is why i liked it so much. -Taylor Short

The one that I have connected from the most would be "Mental stresses rising Educators Say" San Jose Mercury News. It is how a student breaks down under pressure and how others are the same. They break down because of the social picture of their perfect lives they are trying to put up. It is so easy to break down because of social pressure. I think everyone struggles with this because we are all trying to act as though we have those perfect lives with no problems, when really doing that is causing the problems.

My favorite article that I have chosen for my project is ¨Women like Mulan didn’t need to go to war in disguise¨. It talks about how scientists have studied the remains and bones of soldiers, who fought in the ancient Chinese wars. From the skeletons, they found that there were many women on the battlefield and found how they died. Their battle wounds show that they were actually fighting and not running away and that they had been fighting just as much as any man. This relates to me because I feel that women should always have the same rights as men, and I am glad that now, women are able to go and fight in the military. Below is a link that goes the full original Chinese ballad of Mulan. https://mulanbook.com/pages/northern-wei/ballad-of-mulan - Madeline Stein

This article was about how newspapers during WW2 neglected to inform Americans about the events of the Holocaust in Germany. The solution, participate in the project History Unfolded, which is aiming at publishing hidden articles found during the 1940s in America about the Holocaust. Personally, I have always loved studying the Holocaust in school. Though very depressing and hard to imagine at times, it is very important to continue to learn about ti so it does not happen again. Additionally, it shocked me that this topic was neglected to be put into newspapers during WW2, so the fact that people are doing something about it is really encouraging.

I though this article looked interesting and it really was. I really like science, I really enjoy reading about it, it is super fun. I liked this article the most because, although the other articles were very, very interesting, there was something about this article that just made me like it even more. My article had a theme of science, but this one was specifically biological science which I probably enjoy the most. The language in this article seemed very advanced, so I was proud of the fact that I got most of it. In the article it explains what anti-bodies are and what they do to help you stay healthy.

It talks about what it was like to be a woman in the 1800s, and about the traditional family roles and how the world was different between women and men. This article also talks about how women gained equal opportunity in America through protesting. It's almost difficult to put yourself in that position in 1800s America as a woman, because we don't have all these unequal opportunities anymore (that were once divided by sex), and it's almost hard to remember what life was like without them. I'm excited to go deeper into this article (and the other ones too).

I like this one from the group because it did have to do with art just like the rest of them but this one a lot more fun to read and understand. i liked reading it because it drew me in with the story behind the story. he told use about how his struggles trying to get the short film approved and made and he shared the struggles he had in life coming out to his own family and keeping his relationship a secret from his family just like the main character in the short film did and the how when he finally did he felt happier then he ever had.

My favorite article was called "Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies at 87." This article was from NewsELA. It covered the recent passing of RBG, who was an activist for equality. She advocated for many groups of people who probably wouldn't have the same rights today if not for her. This ties into my other articles because they're about the 2020 presidential election. The results of this election, while added with her death could mean major changes for groups such as women, POC, and the LGBTQ community. The author made this article mostly informational by discussing what RBG has done to advocate for equality in this country throughout her life. I can connect with this article because gender inequality is very real and without RBG, this inequality could possibly increase. It almost feels like the country would be going backwards.

I really chose this article because I've just recently started watching the show I'm like on episode 7 maybe? My unique and personal conclusion about the text is that gender equality is far from being where it needs to be. This article was only written in September of this year, meaning it took scientists a very long time to even try and look at the remains to see if women warriors were fighting. It also related to the fact that today women still don´t get paid as much as men. I am a woman and I can definitely relate to the struggles of gender equality.

Tuesday- Educational screen time wasn't harmful to students but other types of screen time like video games took time away from sleeping and exercising which isn't healthy. The pandemic is to blame. I could relate to this article a lot because my screen time is close to eight hours daily. During corona it was around eleven. Having dance taken away for so long was demotivating which is why i was on my phone so much. Its easy to grab and spend hours on. Whether it was on social media, face-timing people, etc.

My article today talked about how people turned to adopting pets to help them cope with self isolation, and the hardships of the corona virus pandemic. They felt the animals brought them comfort, and company. I can personally relate to this because I know when I was going through this, I spent a lot more time with my animals and I could always take them on walks.

The central idea of the article, "Healthy screen time is one challenge of distance learning" is too much screen time can lead to an increase in obesity and other types of physical problems. I can show a personal connection because I am going through what the article talks about. At first I was really worried about the amount of screen time I was getting because I know that if I get to much I can get bad results. However, with volleyball I am getting at least two hours of a workout in; moreover, not only that but I am also dancing for an hour in dance class. Now that we are in school I am still walking around every hour during passing periods or to throw something away or to go the the bathroom. So in the end I am making sure I am moving and not just sitting around. Overall I think this is a good article and people should read about it.

This article is about how the incoming youth don't make the cut for the military for a plethora of reasons. First, the young men are having trouble passing drug tests, have too low of a gpa point, lack a high school diploma, or got arrested. This resulted in an expansion of women being able to be ranked higher and serve in combat roles. Another problem is obesity. Too many Americans are fighting obesity, making them too heavy to join the army. This is a real US problem. A personal connection I have is wanting to join the navy or some kind of military. Recently the idea has become really appealing to me, I would love to impact the World in a positive way.

This article was mainly about how students break under pressure and do not know what to do about it. That mental illnesses are rising in younger ages to. There are theories that it could be their at home life, the stress of having to be the best, and or having to paint that perfect life on social media, living a lie to satisfy others in a sense. I connect with this article on a deeper level because I am one of those kids with really high anxiety. I used to have depression and the way this was described was way to real. " until everything shatters." had really swayed me because it is so true. The minute you hit your breaking point that wall that you had built around yourself is gone and you feel so exposed to the world. The tears the hurt it all comes in screams and then sobbing. The confusion of not knowing how to grasp reality. The society stigmas suck, the beauty standards, the pressure of being the best, the I have to have a perfect life on social media. I want it to all fall apart and just have everyone be real with each other for once.

As he gives her an elixir for her daughter, Lucy, it seems that it was no use and in fact worsened her condition. Though the doctor and mother tries everything, it is no use as Lucy passes a few days later. I can personally relate, not to such an extent, but to know how it feels when you realize how naive you were. How it would've been easier if you could have just seen from another view and understand what is actually happening, not what you are hoping to happen.

-Maya Earl
The article I read today was about how humans and companies produce 420 million tons of plastic annually. Although, it can be crucial for things in everyday life for things such as packaging, preventing bacteria with gloves, thermometer covers, etc it's also very harmful to the environment and about 14 million tons of it goes into the ocean every year. Researchers and scientists have been experimenting and trying to come up with ways we can combat these effects. This relates to me on a more personal level because I've always been really passionate about the planet and how we can save it, specifically the ocean is a big love of mine and it's major problem right now, so I think we should all be doing everything we can to change this.

This article was talking about how every man, including ones that are famous (KPOP IDOLS), have to serve at least 23 months in the military. This also includes BTS. I feel that the author was a little persuasive as well. You could tell that they didn't want them to go. For me BTS has made me feel like I belong somewhere and the message of their music is amazing. It has diffidently made me a better person. And it would be heartbreaking to see them go for more than a year and also if something bad happened to them. They all created what has been the biggest turning point in my life and it would just be hard to loose one of them. That is just me though.

I chose this article because BTS has really been making history, by being one of the only "outsiders" to be able to get into western outlets. Its really incredible how music is really changing and how people aren't limiting their music or hating something because its in another language. These dogs are official employees of the hospital and they work shifts just like regular doctors do. These dogs are helping comfort the patients and making them feel less stressed about their current situation. Even when I am not sick, I love it when my dogs comes up to me and just sits by me or lays down next to me. I feel like if I was sick and in a hospital, already far from home, I would feel so comforted to have a little companion next to me helping me through my situation. I think it is great was this hospital is doing and I hope they are able to keep doing it because I believe it is helping so many kids get through their struggles. -Marissa McCann

The article that I read for today is about the research that was done to prove how boredom comes in many ways and for many reasons as well. Boredom can be linked to health problems, stress, and bad behavior. I can personally connect to this article about boredom because for the many months we were all in our house I found myself (like many others) becoming extremely bored in my house. This boredom made me form bad habit which is going on my phone when there is free time instead of doing something productive. I also think many people can relate to this because like the article said, many people who are bored all of the time tend to smoke and drink. So if you are someone who gets really bored easily and you dont want to fall into those kinds of things then we need to keep ourselves busy
-Nicole Hogan

I am able to connect to this article because I have also written thank you cards to people who risk their lives each and everyday because I read something about it and I felt like it was the right thing to do.

In this article, it talks about how in Marvel comic books, Native Americans have always been portrayed with the same main two archetypes that they usually fall into. So with Native American History Month coming up in November, Marvel is planning to release an anthology called "Marvel Voices: Indigenous Voices #1" which would revisit some of Native Americans characters in comics and make them more diverse. I find this as a great way to start changing and be more equal with all types of characters in comics, race or gender. And though they do have a long way to go, it's a good start to showing Native Americans more recognition than what has been shown in Marvel's comic books.

Today's article is " Sick kids get a dose of canine comfort" which is about these golden retrievers who are facility dogs that go around to patients rooms and comfort them when they need it. There are patients who aren't allowed to have family come and visit them so the trained dogs help them get through what they need to get through. I am able to relate to this article because I had a relative that was actually in the hospital for treatments and she would call my mom talking about how there was dogs that would go around and be there for the patients. She would say how the dogs helped her because none of us were allowed to go up and visit her and plus we were all busy since we had school and work. Overall I think this is a great story and I recommend that people read about how dogs are useful to the human body.

For me as a ballplayer I get easily distracted especially when I am in the outfield. When the other team isn't hitting so well you get bored just standing out there and for me I do and then my eyes start to wonder around and I lose focus in the game. In Arizona we don't really have a bird problem so I don't have to worry about that. However, when I go maybe out of state for a tournament and go play in California this might be a problem for me. This will always be something that I keep in the back of my mind while playing over there.

My connection with this article is that I feel we should be giving people their basic rights by now. There is no reason for someone to be killed over skin color and not have their voting protected. Especially because the march was on Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech it really connected to me emotionally because of how upsetting it is. The world needs to do better.

That it is not good to be on it 24/7 because it can cause anxiety, sleeping problems, along with having troubles with confidence. My connection to this is that I have been under that pressure to act as though I have a perfect life, when in reality I don't. It takes an emotional toll on you, that and your not being honest with yourself and the life your living at that point. Social media is addicting and I have trouble trying to get off my phone at times because I don't want to be bored. Though boredom causes creativity which can be used in different ways, boredom should be more common as bad as it sounds. It helps your brain develop and come up with new activities to do.

This article was about what it was like to be a woman in America in the 1800s. How religion changed the setting of the traditional family unit from men dominating over their wives to women and men being equal in the household setting. These rights didn't even apply to all women, they only applied to upper-class white women. Our history needed strong women to fight for the rights of American women. This article was also tied together with the abolitionist movement to end slavery. It shows how oppressed groups in American history rose up and fought for equality for future generations.

She mentions her fears and hopes while on the journey and once they crossed, She was put into a government immigration center which follows on to discuss what it was like there for her and the others put in with her. It states that she was put into a big room with no windows along with many other girls and women. She was there for four days with only ham and cheese sandwiches, water, and aluminum foil used as a blanket. I can personally relate to this because my step-dad’s family immigrated here as well as my mom’s family. My step-dad always mentions how hard it was to go to a new school knowing only Spanish and how difficult it was for his mom as well. A few years ago he got his citizenship.

The article discusses Burger King's marketing campaign which had recently aired a commercial which showed one of their burgers rotting. This was to show Burger King's push for more natural ingredients in their food. At first I was questioning the need for showing a rotting burger for a commercial. Then I realized how smart of a move it was because it gives consumers and viewers that what they're seeing is "real food" and not food that is artificially preserved. It goes to show the recent move for more healthy food and the public's awareness for what we are consuming and in general I see that as a positive. - Andrew Haynes

This article addresses the issue of harsh prison sentences given to the youth. The article shows the reader how the juvenile system has evolved over the years and how it has improved. Over the years many solutions have been presented for the problem and many states have been able to fix the harsh juvenile sentences. For example, Missouri switched to "community-based alternative" which means the youth has an option to get home detention, day and evening reporting centers, and treatment programs instead of the cruel prison sentence. This change has decreased the rate of young people returning to prison.

I feel that this can connect to everyone right now in America because the presidential election is taking place, and with that comes voting. Though none of us can vote yet, I am sure that if we look hard enough, this racial prejudice can still be seen; however, I hope that it will continue to be fought against so a change can be made.

The teen is now looking to talk with car manufactures to make the device easily accessible to everyone.

I am able to relate to this article because I have a younger brother and younger siblings, and I couldn't imagine anything happening to them. Women created marches that influenced people to stride alongside their ideals to stop the discriminatory acts against women of color. Even young activists such as Jay'dha Rackard have gone to create a peaceful children's march against acts of police brutality and equal rights.

As seen in the title I added, today's article was about how "The Last Airbender" still manages to emotionally touch millions of people after years of the series' ending (The Legend of Korra not included). The article talks about how people are feeling about the over all emotionally deep story and it's cultural references made by each of the four nations. Going along side the emotional parts of the story-line, I don't believe that the end of "The Tales of Iroh" was meant to be filler because it honors his first voice actor, Mako, and reveals why he treats Zuko as if he were his own son. It also reveals how Ozai became Fire Lord even though that role was supposed to go to Iroh. ALTA was a huge part of my young childhood, same goes for each of my siblings. Over all, the series is severely underrated.

Today the article I decided to read was ¨A 13-year-old ´regular kid´ with a stutter gives inspiring Democratic convention speech¨. This article was about a boy named Brayden Harrington voicing his opinion on this years election as well as him explaining his connection with Biden and how he personally has helped him with one of his greatest insecurities. Which was his stutter. Personally, I don´t like either of our candidates this year, but I can´t do much about it because I can´t even vote. However, I see why people have gained some sort of empathy and support for Biden. I also admire this kids strength to speak out about his personal views and overcoming one of his greatest insecurities/fears in the process of doing so. It takes a lot of courage to do that and I wish I was strong enough to do something as bold as that.

All that concerns me is that Fortnite was a part of people’s lives and this battle is not related to them. Also, that Fortnite was such an interesting game that I would like to play on my phone, and not being able to play it make, this may cause people to hate or not support Google's and Apple's marketplaces.

So to see different stories of black people made by black people , whether they are fictitious or real, is a great sight to see.

At first, men was given this task but it was proven to be difficult for them so some women stepped up to help and this was the start of the Indigenous Warrior Women. They go through many difficulties though, mostly revolving around gender inequality as these women have been threatened, attacked and killed at some point on patrol. But with a strong mentality they continue to protect their forest and land. However, things seem to have gotten a bit difficult now that they are trying to stay safe from COVID-19 but still trying to protect the forest. This article is a very inspiring article that shows that gender doesn't matter for what you choose to be or do in life. With a strong mentality, you can complete your goals in life and do you. As a young women, this is a very motivating article as well as good in informing of what is happening around the world too.

My brothers on the other hand are learning a good amount of English that I didn't know at their age because they are playing video games all day.

Russell Glass' opinion piece "Want a revolution? It’s easy — go vote" explains the importance of registering to vote and actively taking part in the election, especially this year. I can relate to this article because this election could heavily affect the US. I have a cousin who didn't vote in 2016 and is now planning to vote third-party. This way of voting hurts the outcome of the election. By not voting, you get absolutely no show for it. Also, voting third-party this year might as well be voting for Trump. Anyone not voting for Biden is just giving Trump more votes. I fear what may happen to this country if Trump is given four more years. He has made it clear he lacks maturity and decency, especially recently in the debate. If more people register, maybe the outcome of the election will be better.

In this article, the author Hau Chu, brings up several points on how people under the age of 18 are rarely taken seriously about almost anything. Kids are rarely taken seriously even when they know things that they normally should know at the age of 16 and below. Kids are getting smarter, the world is changing, and yet people under 18 are still considered to be naive or are treated like they don;t know what they're talking about. In this article, it gives examples of some people finally accepting that kids understand whats going on in the world, probably better than most adults. My personal connection to the text is that even though I tell the truth most of the time, people think I'm lying or that I just don't understand. Trust me, I understand certain things VERY well, when I don't, it depends on how someone was explaining something to me.

The article I read today was ¨´Our voices carry weight´¨: Young women of color lead activists charge¨. The author talks about the impact women of color have made when it comes to the protests going on during this pandemic. I think it´s great that these women are pointing out the obvious that others choose to ignore. Being oppressed can go more than one way, it isn´t always just about the color of someones skin, which is explained by one of the women leading a protest. Women especially women of color have been oppressed for a while now, the author explains this when talking about how their voices arent heard and are ignored. So these women finally stepping up once again to point out the flaws in the government and society itself shows how powerful they truly are and that the fear of speaking out doesn´t control them.

“How a dog became mayor of a California town” by Matthew Cantor

AO1: This article is about how Mayor Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller II,a 6-year-old golden retriever, became mayor of a Californian town. When his brother had passed away during his second term of the spot, no one could take his place since he had no children. So they went on a search for any of his relatives and found Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller II. (even his other siblings are his security guards.)

AO4: I can relate to this article because I honestly myself think that my dogs are smart just like how Mayor Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller II is. They might be 4 or more years younger than him but they know all the basics for both being around 1 ½ years old.

The article "Experts link teen brains' immaturity, juvenile crime" by Malcom Ritter is about age being taken into consideration when talking about charging someone underage for a crime that they have committed, however, the author believes that rehabilitation is the way to go. Personally, I believe that teens should not be charged as an adult, especially because they don't realize the consequences of their actions as the average adult with a fully developed brain would. I am a teenager who is interested in the government system, being the way that it works. These days, many people are pointing out the flaws within the system, and I think that it needs to be changed and fixed.

Terraforming is a process which is to transform an environment to fit specific needs for a species. I love space exploration therefore traveling to other planets has always been my dream, that is the reason why I picked this article.

This article was about how during and after world war two people of Japanese descent were being discriminated against and how they were treated like prisoners and put into internment camps since the United States were fighting against Japan in World War Two. I feel bad for these people who had to go through this and this goes to show that discrimination has existed for a long time in this country and it's an ongoing issue and we all need to be united to put an end to discrimination.
