Lots of tardies that are going to accrue. There needs to be a threshold on tardies and a consequence.

Hopefully the board will think long and hard on those who it truly effects.

This does NOT solve the REAL problem...which is the need for bus drivers for those empty buses not being used. Perhaps looking at someone at district level to write a grant or donors choose to raise funds needed for this issue...much like what is asked of teachers.

Why not simply flip HS and Elementary school start times? I agree with the previous post that young elementary children should not be made to wait at a bus stop early in the mornings, especially during daylight savings when it is dark. This seems unsafe to me.

High schools around the country have earlier start times, as did mine. Our high school was 7:20-2:00, and the elementary was 8-2:30. This allowed for the high school siblings to be home to supervise the elementary students after school which eliminated the need for parents to pay for after school care. This will also cause a burden to elementary parents who have to pay for an increase in after school care costs as the amount of time will increase so will the fee.

The early morning time for littles to be out at a bus stop is unreasonable and unsafe. Is that what is really best for those students? I have followed behind many school buses, and they seem to stop every few hundred feet. Make bus stops at a more central location and expect parents to get the parents to the stop and wait with them...not running out of their house in their pj's because the bus is stopping in front of their house. How much time would this save?

I have read that you dont want to flip the elementary and high school times due to "data" showing that their minds dont work early in the morning. History of school start times and academic success does not support that. Have you considered flipping the Middle and High times- this would still give time for athletics in the afternoon and for those new drivers who have to be home by 6 to get there.
As another one wrote- hire bus drivers- if you can't - find out why and address those issues.

It will definitely help with providing extra time for the buses to get the elementary students in and the secondary school students to their buildings but will require an adjustment for everyone, as 15 minutes makes a big difference in the morning!

Pushing start times back 15 minutes for the middle and high school levels is more in line with current research on natural sleep cycles than moving elementary schools into an earlier start time.

After school activities will easily adjust by 15 minutes and the percentage of students affected by the driving restrictions is minimal.

Every elementary student, parent, teacher and other staff should not be required to adjust their day for a much smaller group of kids who have after-school activities.
