Silver Lake is known for its dichotomy community and rich blends of cultures. founded in 1999, (Silver Lake overview). this neighborhood has become a welcoming home to people from various backgrounds, including italian immigrants,as well as individuals of hispanic and haitian descent. when you walk through silver lake, you’ll notice the vibrant mix of cultures that contribute to its unique atmosphere. Originally, many residents migrated from different parts of italy. “Italians have come to these shores since the Age of Exploration.” This diversity makes Silver Lake a special place where acceptance and cultural exchange thrive.

I was born in the United States, Providence Rhode Island. I am from the Dominican Republic but my parents moved to America for more opportunities and a better life. Although I wasn’t born in the same place I’m from I still try my hardest to continue my country’s culture and traditions. I do not believe i’m apart of a diaspora. I believe this is because I wasn’t forced to leave my homeland or anything in that manner.

I was in middle school and transitioned to High school where I took a course on the diaspora I learned, how many communities were forced out of their homelands or left trying to get away from english colonizers or the spanish conquests. Many of these countries/states were exploited for the resources they had or to be sold as slaves.

Essentially I decided to talk about the neighborhood of Silver Lake, because I believe that this neighborhood had more history of diasporas and a diverse community. This neighborhood is well known for many things and its diversity is mainly one of them. another reason to why I chose this neighborhood is because it’s close to home and I was interested in the diversity of its community and the neighborhood.

This history project is about Silver Lake’s diaspora. It’s diversity as a community. This project includes interviews based on how the people in this neighborhood think this diaspora for their everyday lives. These people are mostly hispanic, haitian, and also sometimes italians.

Essentially, when people hear the name of Silver Lake. Thet think about it’s welcoming and diverse community. However what makes this neighborhood unique is the story of italian immigrants and people from hispanic descents that were in the americas(the neighborhood/Silver Lake).
