Did you know that the first video game was invented in October 1958, with the name “Tennis For Two” by physicist William Higinbotham? Comparing the popularity between earlier times and nowadays, we can see that video games have changed and developed a lot more along with gaining more popularity as time passes. The reason for it is because of how video games can attract by providing enjoyment for the users. Despite that, video games still have many negative impacts that are harmful for the players, such as turning into an addiction, developing health problems, both physically and mentally. Fortunately, these two also come in useful solutions to get rid of them, which includes having a limited time to use and building healthy habits.

Firstly, the most common problem that many gamers or players come across is getting addicted. This is when people who play video games would constantly play it for a long time and make them look like they are completely glued to the screen. According to a 2021 study published in Delamere Health, approximately 3%-4% players worldwide are considered to have video games addiction, which is the same as 60 million or more people are suffering from this. This problem has an impact on behavior and well being, such as developing aggressive behavior, as well as having difficulty controlling time along with other responsibilities.

Video games can also develop negative impacts on physical and mental health. This includes physical impacts such as eyestrain, bad eyesight, headaches from a long time staring or looking into the screen and even from addiction, as well as mental impacts such as anxiety, depression, loneliness due to the lack of real life interactions, along with the lack of sleep, sleep disruption. According to an article published on Harvard Health, gaming addiction or excessive gaming can lead to physical health impacts such as repetitive stress injuries and risk of obesity, as well as mental health issues like anxiety, sleep disruption, and social withdrawals. This shows how video games can have a significant impact on gamers or users.

Luckily, there have been many different solutions that came up to solve these problems, the most common one being setting a limited time to use. By having a limited time, users will only play in that amount of time and can help reduce risk of getting addicted or health problems. Based on an experimental study in 2022, a two week abstinence significantly reduced symptoms of Internet Gaming Disorder as well as avoided health issues, specifically mental health such as anxiety or depression. This solution may seem simple but it has a powerful impact to significantly improve each person’s experience.

Another solution to these problems is by building healthy habits and forming a routine, which includes a mix of outdoor and indoor activities, such as taking a walk, doing sports, or reading, meditating indoors, along with daily activities with a proper time such as eating, sleeping time, etc. However, this does not mean that you have to get rid of playing games, instead, you can use the limited time solution to put into the routine so that you can both maintain a healthy life as well as satisfy yourself. Just imagine how it would be if you can try to combine all of those and form a healthy routine, for example, you can choose to start the day by taking a walk for around 15 minutes, which can improve physical health, and then eat some breakfast along with working or doing productive activities. After that you can take a short break to relax your body and mind for your mental health as well as well-being, which can be a short nap, a reading session or even a quick gaming round. Continue these daily activities with a short break after a long time to prevent health issues, and end the day with a full 8 hour sleep to calm down and relax. These healthy habits show that you can reduce risks and negative impacts that video games bring to us, along with improving and maintaining your own health happily.

It is true that video games can bring us joy and satisfaction from their experience, however, we should be aware of the negative effects that they can bring, which can be addiction or both physical and mental health issues, as well as preventing them by applying effective solutions such as setting a limited time to use along with building healthy habits and forming them into a routine. By following these solutions, users can ensure that they will get benefits that video games offer and prevent their negative effects, along with balancing their lifestyle in order to maintain a healthy life.

1. Freedom of speech is a basic human right.
Every person has the right to express their thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. Limiting this right opens the door to government control, censorship, and the silencing of voices, especially those who speak against injustice.

2. Who decides what is "too harmful" to say?
If we allow limits, someone must choose what is allowed and what isn’t. This power can easily be misused. Governments, companies, or leaders may silence criticism by calling it "dangerous" or "offensive."

3. Limiting speech can hurt democracy.
Democracy needs open discussion. People must be free to question laws, leaders, and each other. If we stop speech just because it is unpopular or controversial, we weaken the whole system.

4. Hate speech or misinformation can be fought with truth, facts, and open debate—not silence.

5.

1. Natural Causes Play a Bigger Role: Climate has changed throughout Earth’s history — even before humans existed. Volcanic eruptions, solar activity, and Earth’s orbit cycles have driven temperature changes for millions of years. Example: The Ice Ages happened naturally, long before human industry.

2. Sun and Oceans Influence Climate Strongly: The sun is the Earth’s primary heat source. Small changes in solar radiation can cause major climate shifts. Oceans absorb and release heat over long cycles, affecting global temperatures.

3. Climate Models Are Not Perfect: Many climate predictions are based on computer models, which rely on assumptions and limited data. These models often struggle to predict long-term trends accurately, especially when natural factors are involved.

4. Carbon Dioxide Comes from Nature Too: While humans emit CO₂, nature does even more: volcanoes, forest fires, and oceans all release large amounts.

1. Animal Suffering

- Animals in experiments can't give clear consent.

- Procedures are often painful, distressing and outright lethal.

- Outside of physical procedures, many are still confined, isolated and psychologically distressed.

- Example: The notorious Draize test, often performed on rabbits, involves dripping chemicals into their eyes or applying them to their shaved skin to assess irritation. This often leads to severe pain, inflammation, ulceration, and even blindness, demonstrating the direct suffering inflicted upon animals

2. Unreliability

- Humans and other animals have significant genetic, anatomical and physiological differences.

- In tests, diseases are often artificially induced in animals, which usually doesn't accurately reflect how diseases develop in humans.

- Example: The arthritis drug Vioxx was found safe and effective in animal studies but caused over 60,000 deaths in the U.S. alone due to cardiovascular events after being marketed to humans.

3. Other Alternatives

- In Vitro methods, experiments are conducted in a controlled environment outside of a living organism, often using human cells, tissues and miniature organs.

- Advanced computer models can simulate biological processes and predict interactions based on existing data.

- Donate healthy and diseased human tissues provide invaluable material for studying human biology and disease mechanisms.

- These alternatives are often cheaper, quicker, and provide more accurate results. This leaves absolutely no reason to continue animal testing.

1. Medical Breakthroughs Depend on It

Animal experimentation has contributed to life-saving medical discoveries such as insulin for diabetes, chemotherapy for cancer, and vaccines for diseases like polio and COVID-19. Without testing on animals, many treatments we rely on today wouldn't exist. Animal models often react similarly to humans, making them critical in ensuring drugs are safe before human trials.

2. Alternatives Are Not Fully Reliable

While alternatives like computer simulations and cell cultures are improving, they cannot yet fully replicate the complexity of a living organism. Many conditions, such as Alzheimer’s or heart disease, affect multiple systems at once. Only in a whole-animal system can scientists observe these complex interactions.

3. Strict Regulations Ensure Humane Treatment

Animal research is already highly regulated. Ethical committees, the “3Rs” principle (Replace, Reduce, Refine), and international guidelines make sure that animals are treated as humanely as possible. Research facilities must justify their use of animals, minimize suffering, and find alternatives whenever possible.

4. Protecting Both Human and Animal Health

Animal testing doesn't just benefit humans—it also helps veterinary medicine. Vaccines and treatments for pets and endangered species have come from research using animal models. By improving health in both worlds, we ensure a safer future for all species.

5. A Responsible Middle Ground

Instead of a full ban, the solution lies in responsible and ethical experimentation, with continued development of alternatives. Let us support innovation without shutting down research that saves lives.

In conclusion, banning animal experimentation would mean slowing down or even stopping scientific progress in vital areas. We must continue to support animal testing under strict ethical standards, because the benefits to humanity and animal health are too great to ignore.

1. Reinforces Gender Stereotypes

Separating students by gender sends a harmful message: that boys and girls are so fundamentally different that they must be educated apart.

It can lead to curriculum and teaching styles tailored to gender-based assumptions (e.g., "girls prefer reading, boys prefer math"), which reinforces harmful stereotypes rather than breaking them down.

2. Lacks Real-World Preparation

The real world is coeducational. In workplaces, universities, and communities, people must collaborate across genders.

Single-sex schooling can limit students’ interpersonal development and make it harder for them to adapt to diverse environments later in life.

3.

1. Breaking Down Stereotypes
- In single-sex schools, “gendered” subjects, subjects seen as more “male” or “female”, are absent. Students are more likely to be encouraged to pursue subjects that are perceived as another gender without fear of judgment from their peers. This can lead to a broader range of interests and skills for all students.

2. Academic Performance

- Research suggests that single-sex classrooms can reduce "stereotype threat," a phenomenon where a student's performance is negatively affected by the fear of confirming a negative stereotype about their group.

- Without the social pressures and distractions that can arise from having the opposite sex in the classroom, students may feel more comfortable participating, taking risks, and focusing on their studies. This can lead to higher academic achievement and a more positive attitude toward school.

3. Leadership Skills and Self-Esteem

- In single-sex environments, every leadership position is held by a student of the same sex. This provides every student with the opportunity to take on leadership roles and develop confidence, regardless of gender.

- By removing the pressure to conform to gendered expectations and social norms, single-sex schools can help students develop a stronger sense of self-worth and a positive self-image. They are free to be themselves and pursue their passions without the subconscious need to impress the opposite sex.

Main Points:

	1.	Improves Focus and Academic Performance: Single-sex education allows students to focus on learning without distractions from the opposite gender. Studies show that students in single-sex schools often perform better academically because teachers can tailor their teaching methods to one gender’s learning style.

	2.	Boosts Confidence and Participation: In single-sex settings, students may feel more comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment from the opposite gender. This is especially helpful in subjects where one gender might dominate participation (e.g., girls in STEM or boys in language arts).

	3.	Breaks Down Gender Stereotypes: Students can pursue interests freely without worrying about “gender norms” (e.g., boys joining drama, girls joining robotics). Teachers can encourage all students equally in non-traditional fields.

	4.	Better Leadership Opportunities: Single-sex schools provide more chances for students to take on leadership roles because there is no competition from the opposite gender. This builds confidence and leadership skills early.

	5.	Supports Personal Development: These schools can address specific social and emotional needs of each gender.

Limit social interaction with the other gender:

Single-sex schools are specifically made for only students with the gender that school allows in, therefore, children in there only interact with people who have the same gender, making them get used to interactions like that and develop that habit with the idea that it will happen the same in society. However, because of that habit of talking normally with people of the same gender, once they actually try to interact in real life, those students will start to feel uncomfortable or not used to talking with another “kind”. This would result in students getting uncomfortable and struggling to communicate in society.

Creating stereotypes of genders:

When a student is surrounded by people of the same gender, they tend to feel like they are supposed to do the same action or basically follow others since they feel related. This would result in developing the idea that people who are also related like them would always do that activity or behave in a specific way, creating a new stereotype of one gender. It can also apply to the other gender, from rumors or even a simple glance, students from single-sex schools may find a simple action that the other ones does and assume that it is a routine for them.

Gender equality issues:

Being in an environment that doesn’t only limit the interaction with the real world along with coming up with stereotypes about others, it can also develop gender inequality ideas in the student’s minds. In single-sex schools, one of the most common things that happens is developing hatred or judgment towards the other gender. It can be based on just simple actions like the way the others walk, eat, or anything else that can result in students in that school going “Ew”, or wondering “What are they even doing?”. Due to the differences between two genders, it is common for them to judge a small difference in their behavior and appearance in each person. And as more judgement builds up, students will start having the idea of gender inequality, making the habit of constantly hating others just because of their gender. This would affect their performance and interactions in society, making it uncomfortable and annoying to just simply chat with others.

1. Comparison of Working Conditions

- Fast fashion factories, often located in developing nations, are notorious for the hazardous and downright inhumane working conditions.

- While other labor-intensive industries also have risks, fast fashion manufacturers will frequently cut corners on safety and well-being in order to satisfy the industry's need for mass-production.

2. Wages and Compensation

- Workers in the fast fashion industry are often paid far below a living wage, and most of them suffer from extreme poverty, rarely ever having financial sustainability.

- The main cause of these wage imbalances are the "buyer-driven" model most fast fashion brands adopt. They will usually put immense pressure on the suppliers for the most efficient production, which transfers to forced overtime and cruel wages for the workers.

3. Consumer Demand

- Consumer demand for new, cheap, and trendy clothing is often relentless. The high demand is what fuels the fast fashion business model and directly contributes to worker exploitation.

- Fast fashion is disposable by design, only meant for a few uses before being thrown away. Consequently, there will always be a constant need for rapid production, and many factories will have to meet unrealistic quotas.

4. Globalization Effects

- Globalization has uniquely enabled the fast fashion industry to exploit workers by allowing companies to produce overseas in countries with weak labor laws and low wages. Since these global supply chains are rarely transparent, it's difficult to hold brands accountable.

- Fast fashion supports a system where brands can easily move production from one country to another if wages or regulations increase. This constant relocation prevents workers from organizing and advocating for better conditions, as factories will risk getting shut down.

- Unlike other sectors such as agriculture, which is often tied to a specific geographic regions, fast fashion is incredibly mobile and competitive on a global scale.

The working conditions in fast fashion industries are not as bad or poorly as some others:

Take agriculture for example, farmers have to work and farm, grow crops to produce food for millions of people around the world. Their efforts can only be seen after hours and months working, yet they would only get a few bucks from the companies when they sell them. Not only that, some of the farmers may not be aware of their surroundings as there might be deadly chemicals that they've been putting in crops or contacting with, such as pesticides that ranges through illnesses like nausea, dizziness, to chronic conditions as harmful as cancer and reproductive problems, which can also apply the same for other industries such as electronics manufacturing, construction, …

As for the fast fashion industry, they are rather placed in a safer workplace that wouldn't expose too many items that may be physically harmful, as they can call for a safety inspector to check. While their pay may not be the highest, it is rather more stable than farmers’ income.

Consumer’s demands takes part in the fast fashion production:

Try asking yourself this question: “What would happen if there were no customers asking for any products from the fast fashion industry?”. It is likely that they will stop producing more, right? As these constant requests keep on building up more and more, quicker speed is required in order to fulfill their demands, making the workers feel pressured from the amount of requests and needing to work quickly, therefore, consumers’ demands and requests are the reasons for fast fashion production.

Fast fashion industry is not always the reason to some environmental problems:

People may say that fast fashion’s products are the reason for polluting the environment more negatively and dangerous than fast fashion’s. For example, oil or gas production can take part in major issues that are happening around the world, like global warming, oil spills that pollutes water, air pollution, or agriculture, causing deforestation from chopping trees for production.

Additionally, fast fashion companies actually don't take a huge part in throwing the products out, it’s rather the customers who do it. Most of the products can be discarded quickly, as they usually don't see much value in these products, they would just throw it away whenever they feel like it. So sometimes we shouldn't blame all on the industry, but shift over to the customers who are actually the ones who increase more waste while requesting more products.

Fortunately, some companies also found out the problems, therefore they had come up with solutions to it, by placing bins for people to put in. You may wonder: “What’s the difference anyway? Isn’t it the same as throwing them away like before?”. That is true, however, these aren’t just those ordinary bins, they are for recycling those clothing, meaning that they will use the ones being discarded to make new ones. It can be made into a new style or a completely different design that is sold again. This solution will keep on going in a loop, as it helps decrease and prevent any waste thrown out or pollution.

I’m Kiệt from the Opposition team. We believe that applying strict energy efficiency standards is more effective than only prioritizing renewable energy.

First, efficiency saves energy immediately. By improving buildings, transport, and appliances, we can reduce energy waste right away, without waiting for new renewable projects to be built.

Second, efficiency is cheaper. Many studies show that saving one unit of energy costs less than producing one unit of renewable energy. For example, insulating homes or using LED lights can cut electricity bills while reducing demand.

Third, efficiency supports renewables. Even if we build solar or wind farms, they will work better if energy demand is lower. Efficiency makes renewable energy more reliable and easier to integrate into the grid.

Fourth, it helps people directly. Families and businesses save money when their homes, machines, and vehicles use less power. This makes clean energy more affordable, which is the main goal of SDG 7.

Finally, it reduces pressure on resources. Renewable energy requires a lot of land, metals, and investment. With strong efficiency measures, we can achieve clean energy without such high costs and environmental impact.

In conclusion, strict energy efficiency standards provide faster, cheaper, and fairer results for sustainable development than focusing only on renewables.

Ladies and gentlemen, I strongly support prioritizing renewable energy to achieve SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy.

The problem is clear: the world still depends on fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas. These cause pollution, release carbon emissions, and will eventually run out. Energy efficiency standards can reduce how much we use, but they don’t solve the real issue: dirty and limited fuels.

Renewable energy gives us a lasting solution. Solar, wind, and hydro are clean, unlimited, and cheaper than ever. The price of solar power has dropped by more than 80% since 2010, and wind by over 50%. That makes them not only sustainable but also affordable.

Renewables also expand access. Today, about 675 million people still live without electricity. In places like Kenya and Bangladesh, small solar kits and mini-grids have already brought light and power to rural homes, helping children study, supporting small businesses, and reducing poverty.

On top of that, renewable energy makes countries more independent. Instead of relying on imported oil or gas, nations can use local sun, wind, or water, protecting people from rising prices and global crises.

And finally, renewables fight climate change. Since energy use causes about three-quarters of global emissions, switching to clean power is the only way to protect our planet from heatwaves, floods, and disasters.

In short, energy efficiency is helpful, but only renewable energy can give us clean, affordable, and reliable power for the future. That is why we must prioritize it.

Thank you.
