Her claim to let the United Nation's to know that as children, we are sick of the UN utilizing money for unuseful things when we can use it in much suitable, more sustainable ways to help the children starving, the people who have not place to go nor live, and the animals that are needed to be saved, all coming together to fix the problem and stop breaking it or the forthcoming generation will not have a future to look towards.

Logos: Logos, an appeal to logic meaning to convince an audience by use of logic or reasoning. To use logos would be to cite facts and statistics, historical and literal analogies. Suzuki has used a part of logos to support the argument of nationals not doing anything. It is exemplified when Suzuki said, "30 million species strong and we all share the same air, water and
soil – borders and governments will never change that". This makes the audience think rationally about the answer to these questions. It also makes them reflect on the fact that a 13 year old girl, who hasn't even entered adolescent years is taking more action in taking care of the planet and the environment.

Pathos: Pathos was used by Severn Suzuki in her speech to allow the audience to empathize with the people who live in poverty and suffer in silence from this topic. This was illustrated when she discussed the child in Brazil who said that if they were wealthy, they would use their money to help other street children. This means that young children are genuinely struggling to meet their basic survival needs, and even if one were to become rich, they will use their resources to support those left in this position because it is so tragic that no one deserves to be left behind to face these struggles alone.

Repetition: Severn Suzuki has effectively used repetition to highlight her speeches key point. This can be seen in how the expression is used, "I am.." She clearly defines her place in society, as well as the obligations of others. Ethos: The person presenting the speech, Severn Suzuki was, at the time, a 12 year old girl presenting her cause to the world. Her, as a 12 year old girl, is the future generation that she talks about in her speech which gives her the credibility to speak about the various issues that her generation will face as she is part of that future generation.
Logos: Throughout the speech, she asks questions, such as "Did you have to worry of these little things when you were my age?" or "Are we even on your list of priorities?". This makes the audience think rationally about the answer to these questions. This is seen in the use of the phrase "I am.." as she clearly identifies her role in society, as well as other people's responsibilities. She is continuously reminding her target audience about the main issue she has come to deliver a speech about and raise awareness for.
Foreshadowing- The author has utilized the technique of foreshadowing in the very first paragraph, the introduction, to allow the audience to envision how the future will look like if they do not take action immediately, and help to fight for a happy earth and environment for all. This also emphasizes how significant this issue is and why it is so critical for the future of upcoming generations or they will not have anything to look forward to when the time comes.
Pathos- Severn Suzuki has included the use of pathos in her speech as a way for the audience to sympathize with the people who are living in poverty and suffering from this issue in silence. This is demonstrated when she mentioned the child in Brazil who has mentioned that if they were rich, they would use their wealth to provide necessities for the other street children. What this indicates is young children are truly struggling in terms of finding their basic needs for survival, and even if one were to become wealthy, they would make use of their wealth to help others left in this situation as it is so terrible to the point where nobody deserves to be left behind and face these challenges on their own.

Repetition is seen in the multiple phrases commencing with "You don't know how", which is then followed by a series of points. These points are based off of human destruction to nature, and to our environment. Severn Suzuki then ends by saying that if they don't know how to fix it, then they should not of started it. In this particular example of anaphora, Suzuki is trying to emphasize the fact that things should only be done/destroyed if it is certain that they can be fixed and/or replaced.

Pathos (Appeal to safety): "I am afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in the ozone. I am afraid to breathe the air because I don’t know what chemicals are in it."
In this example, pathos and the appeal of safety are being used to create both an emotional response from the audience as well as addressing the safety concerns of the topic. As a child (young person speaking to older people) by saying she is afraid she is intending to evoke an emotional response from the audience, as human nature is to make sure that children are not afraid. Having a child being afraid of something like going outside or breathing is meant to draw attention to the effect of the issue.

Appealing to Audience's self-esteem?: "You don’t know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer. You don’t know how to bring the salmon back up a dead stream. You don’t know how to bring back an animal now extinct. And you can’t bring back forests that once grew where there is now a desert. If you don’t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it!"
 In this example, she is appealing to the audience's self-esteem by telling them that they do not know how to do things and that they can not do things. By saying this she is demeaning their visions of themselves and how capable they are by bringing to light the important things that they are unable/incapable of doing. This is intended to provoke them to want to do things as to not retain this poor image of not being able to do something. It is an appeal to human nature.

"Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying “everything’s going to be alright’, “we’re doing the best we can” and “it’s not the end of the world”. But I don’t think you can say that to us anymore." this shows an appeal to keeping children safe which is built in to our biology ever since the beginning of humanity.

Appeals to social:
"In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals, jungles and rainforests full of birds and butterflies, but now I wonder if they will even exist for my children to see." The purpose of this is to remind the audience of their own dreams when they were younger, and show how devastating it would be if their own children could not even dream of the same things.

"Here, you may be delegates of your governments, business people, organisers, reporters or politicians – but really you are mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles – and all of you are somebody’s child." This appeals to how each politician is part of a family and whatever business they have, family should come first.

Appeals to self-esteem:
"If you don’t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it!" The purpose of this is to show that even kids can see that there are negative effects from actions and that they blame the UN council for not doing anything, which means that other people don't think well of the UN council.

"Even when we have more than enough, we are afraid to share, we are afraid to let go of some of our wealth." The purpose of this is to emphasize the world’s environmental struggles and stress how the audience is also being impacted by this. 
 
Logos: Furthermore, she used facts to back up her argument using numbers and statistics. For example, "30 million species strong and we all share the same air, water and
soil – borders and governments will never change that.”
 
Anecdote: She is providing a personal experience as evidence where she can connect with the audience emotionally. Suzuki states, “I used to go fishing in Vancouver, my home, with my dad until just a few years ago we found the fish full of cancers.” The purpose of this is for the audience to sympathize for her and understand how the lack of attention ruins family traditions.

Suzuki’s speech was dominantly ethos as she was connecting with the audience’s feelings. She was sympathizing over animals that are being extinct and forests that were becoming deserts. 

Negative Motivation/Foreshadowing: She also references the future generation and emphasizes how they are not getting the same opportunities as they had when they were young.

"Small dirt house with no roof to keep out the scorching heat, and they dusted off the two old mats that they ate, slept and prayed on." This brings up a safety and sanitization issue that the refugees are facing, where they don't have shelter. A regular family could imagine how difficult it would be without shelter or clean surfaces to use for everyday life, and could want to donate to keep others from facing similar issues.

Appeals to social:
"I remember meeting a pregnant Afghani woman in a completely abandoned camp in Pakistan - She was alone with her two children and another woman." She talks highly about them commemorating their bravery and struggle to survive. The use of words such as survivor highlights the generality technique, as she mainly talks about the broad idea of surviving and achieving more time on earth, giving multiple stores in the speech each time of a different person to reveal the real states and conditions of these refugees. Her extensive use of adjectives such as 'bog pretty eyes, big wide sparkling smile, and after he'd been to, he's full of laughter and love' helps the story or description come alive to the audience. It not only creates an image but also adds to the acknowledgement and appreciation of refugees strength and bravery.

Jolie uses her description not only to support her point on the issue but also to connect with the audience and help them realise the massively of this issue, at one point she says "she said it with tears in her eyes with such a desperation. A desperation unimaginable to every parent in this room” this emotionally evokes thoughts of those ‘parents’.

She summarises the speech in the end by highlighting the refugees she mentioned in the speech and how she was not only proud to meet them, but gave aspects of inspiration to her as a growing individual. She described three: a pregnant woman in Pakistan, a paralyzed boy who was shot in the back, and an eight year old girl who saved her brother. At the end of her speech, she described how each one of those encounters impacted her and made her realize that they are strong, resilient, and kind humans who deserve every right any other person has. The anecdotes describe a personal experience in first person, therefore, they are insightful by describing what she saw and felt at the given time. This impacts the audience as they can be in her shoes and truly understand the terrible conditions these humans are living in, and how no one deserves such a life. 
 
Imagery  
In her speech Angelina was consistently utilizing the use of imagery while describing her story to the audience. As, she mainly used visual imagery to narrate about the various people she met and the locations she visited. Furthermore, this makes the audience relate to her story and feel like they are there. This way they can understand Angelina’s point better.

She was alone with her two children and another woman." 
This appeals to social needs as well as pathos because she is described as all alone, and separated from everyone else. People have the need to be surrounded and supported by other people, and in this case, the woman has been left all alone. This evokes both an emotional response in the audience as well as making them understand her situation. The social needs of people are that they want to fit in, but they can not fit in if there is no one around. This makes them feel very empathetic for this woman and connects them to the story personally as there has been a time when everyone felt alone.
Pathos: "they made the last of their tea, and insisted on me to enjoy it."
This evokes an emotional response from the audience as it allows them to think/feel of the situation where someone who has already been abandoned and has very little, is now giving the last of what they have to a person they have never met before. This creates an emotional connection between the subject of the story and the audience. These emotional ties are what give the speech depth and resonance.

The language used in this speech is very emotive some examples being "They are mothers and daughters and fathers and sons” “they are not numbers” this is done to raise sympathy in the audiences mind. She is encouraging the audience to consider these refugees equal to them and in some aspect even imagine themselves in the refugee’s shoes. she repeats the phrase “they are not…” this helps add emphasis to their identities as normal individuals and humanizes them.

Pathos: Angelina Jolie's incredible marking speech includes touching stories she has been through with individuals facing the topic of refugees. In each one of her stories, Angelina Jolie makes effective use of imagery and adjectives, in order to describe what she has seen, which all contributes to the effect it has on the audience. In this context, Jolie evokes the audience's emotions and feelings, helping to persuade the audience why this topic is so serious. The use of vocabulary draws out feelings of empathy in the audience.
