Khaled Hosseini intricately weaves Amir's internal and external conflicts through his complicated relationship with Hassan, which evolves alongside his personal desires and societal pressures. Hosseini presents many dynamics to Amir and Hassan's relationship. He presents the brotherly bond between them but also the social class differences of a Pashtun and a Hazara. Amir and Hassan's relationship has a very brotherly close bond between each other that sometimes the line between Pashtun and Hazara blurs between them. In such moments, Hassan's first word was Amir, being fed from the same breasts, Hassan stands up for Amir numerous times and they are always playing with each other.

However since Amir is a very round dynamic character who creates tension and advancement in his character in later chapters. Amir's internal conflict of wanting to gain his fathers affection blurs the lines between right and wrong for Amir which ultimately contrasts the guilt and jealousy that he has towards Hassan who embodies the qualities he lacks as a person: loyalty, bravery and innocence. Whereas in order to make up for those qualities he reduces Hassan to his social status to help justify the actions he has made such as sacrificing Hassan for the blue kite, letting Hassan take the blame for him and more. Leading to external conflicts, the Pashtun vs Hazara dynamic is widely portrayed throughout the book as hostility and inhuman treatment that Hazaras are less than nothing. Amir longing to have his fathers affection is easily affected by Hassan who easily receives Baba's reflection despite Amir being the legitimate child of his. It disrupts Amir green world of having Baba affection creating Amir mad world of guilt and jealousy that he cannot have the same affection and connection that he longs to have with Baba. Amir's inner conflict and changing views on Hassan demonstrate that he is a dynamic character. In contrast, Hassan is a flat character in these chapters his innocence and loyalty constants, although in some areas of the book he sheds the flat characters and presents a round character that Hosseini presents to give Hassan some depth to his character, but he nevertheless plays a crucial part in shaping Amir's emotional development.

To sum up, the way that Amir and Hassan's relationship changes across Chapters 1–9 demonstrates how Amir's internal and external conflicts interact. Even while Amir has a strong desire for his father's affection and acceptance, his internal conflict is fueled by jealousy and remorse toward Hassan's everlasting commitment and innocence, which leads him to act in ways that betray Hassan. Amir is changed from a vibrant figure into someone who struggles with his own moral shortcomings and aspirations as a result of this internal conflict, which is framed by exterior societal differences, especially the Pashtun-Hazara division. Hassan, on the other hand, continues to be a fairly flat, static figure whose unwavering loyalty and purity operate as a mirror to Amir's complexity. Throughout these chapters, Hosseini examines how unresolved internal conflicts of identity and self-worth may skew relationships, feed guilt cycles, and pave the way for either future success or failure.
