Caucasus region of eurasia for 3,000 years. During the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire took control of the land surrounding Armenia. The Turks of the Ottoman Empire were almost completely muslim and the armenians were almost completely christian. The christians were taxed heavily and had few political and legal rights. In 1908 a new government came to power in Turkey. They began to try ethnic cleansing in order to create their idea of a perfect Turkey. Although, at one point in time they were also part of the Ottoman Empire. During this time Christians (majority of Armenians) were forced to pay higher taxes then muslims. Except for that, Armenians were treated fairly well. Until the Turkish Empire fell and the "Young Turks arrived" These turks wanted Armenians gone because of their faith. They were forced out of this empire and killed, beaten, and abused.
