Coldstream is named after the stream which ran through boy's high before the new school was built in 1926. Coldstream was named after the river that was under the school and is still under the school to this very day. In the past there was a lot of buildings with the name blank coldstream

Grant house was named after Don.G.Grant who was rector from 1950-1963. grant started as one of the houses, they were doing the chants at the end of sports day ever since 1950 - 2024 every time it is the same chants

Pearce

Pearce was named after the rector Toby Pearce who was at this school from 1904 - 1929 who brought the old school to the new school in 1926 his house merged with the old house called page so everyone in page joined pearce

Deaker was named after Arthur j.Deaker who was a Math's and history teacher from 1922-1965. He worked at southland boy's high school for over 40 years as an athletics and tennis coach.
