Learners language profiencincy is surprisingly below par. At a grade 8 level I can't seem to understand how learners STILL cannot start a sentence with a capital letter? A grade 3 learner knows of this. 
I blame social media activity and the way learners communicate on them. They communicate mostly in short hand because of conscience. This shows in their work at school because it is what they are used to. 
It dissapointes me, and I would really like to find a way to solve this.

Because it could be used for good as well. Our laptops, phones and tablets have an autocorrect system that "corrects" most of the poor Grammer or spelling. So the question we should be asking ourselves what then is the problem? Are students just lazy to read? Reading is fundamental for the learning of the English language. What I am noticing is that students are lacking in reading proper texts that will improve their language skills. 

What can you suggest that will help encourage learners to read? And also how can I encourage learners enjoy reading?
