The Declaration of Independence preamble promises where that all men were created equal and that they are equipped by their creator with unalienable rights, among these, are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Also Promises of Establishing Justice and Consent of the Governed.

But the Declaration did not extend “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” to African Americans, Native Americans, and women. This is one of the reasons the Declaration of Independence failed because these promises were unfair to those people. African Americans, Native Americans, and women weren't promised these "Promises".

The women wanted a change and felt like they had no rights, which never went along with the Declaration of Independence. Abigail Adams said, "We are determined to foment a Rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice or Representation"(founders.archives.gov). The Declaration of Independence never stated women had rights. I just talked about how men could do this, not she/her can. This demonstrates that the Declaration of Independence failed because it doesn't Promise "Establish Justice or Pursuit of Happiness" to women. Women were not happy they wanted a voice that they couldn't have and were not equal to everyone.

President Andrew Jackson thought the Native Americans were not smart or useful. He pushed a new piece of legislation called the "Indian Removal Act" through both houses of Congress. It gave President Andrew Jackson the power of removing treaties with Indian tribes living east of the Mississippi. "By 1837, the Jackson administration had removed 46,000 Native American people from their land east of the Mississippi and had secured treaties which led to the removal of a slightly larger number. Most members of the five southeastern nations had been relocated west, opening 25 million acres of land to white settlement and to slavery"(pbs.org). This shows that the Declaration of Independence failed because it wasn't fair to the Native Americans that their land was being taken away for white settlement. This doesn't show the promises of "all men are created equal" and "The Pursuit of Happiness because the natives weren't happy or weren't equal because their land was taken from other people making the Declaration of Independence fail.

It was good to learn both good and bad things about our country otherwise we would be missing a lot of information and have questions. The Declaration of Independence is a big part of history and it always will be. The rights that we now have is really all true because it is clear The Declaration of Independence was unfair and failed in many ways.

Slaves codes were made for slaves which were the law of the state, states would copy the laws passed by another so codes were smaller around the south. These rules really showed how African Americans had no control over what they could say or do, and how their rights didn't really matter. Some examples of slave codes where if someone teaches a slave how to read or write will be imprisoned for no less than one month or more than 12 months. Another example is no slave can own anything of his own without the consent of his master.

Fugitive Slave Act was considered one of the worst laws because it's very striking and ultimately helped to bring down the barbaric institution it was crafted to defend. "The new law simply set out to enforce the U.S. Constitution, specifically Article IV, Section 2, Clause 3, which declared that slaves did not become free simply by escaping to a free state and thus stipulated their return to their lawful masters" (time.com). This explains that the US Constitution failed because they didn't follow the promises of "all men are equal" and “Pursuit of Happiness” because salves couldn't be free without returning to their masters which did not make all men equal or everyone happy.

In March of 1857, the United States Supreme Court, made the decision where all black and slaves free were not and could never become citizens of the United States. "The language in the Declaration of Independence that includes the phrase, "all men are created equal," Taney reasoned that "it is too clear for dispute, that the enslaved African race were not intended to be included"(pbs.org). This exemplifies that the declaration of Independence failed because the promise of "all men are created equal" didn't apply to African Americans making it unfair.
