First of all, what is citizenship and active citizenship? I want to start with the question. By definition citizenship is people living in any country must be citizens in order to enjoy most of the rights provided by the state. To put it briefly, a citizen is to be part of a country. Active citizenship is the opportunity for people to deal with problems in the country or city they live in and to have an impact on improving their living standards. 

In fact, the main purpose of our course is to raise awareness of the events going on around us. Just being aware is not enough to be an active citizen. There are things that we should all do to make the city or country we live in more livable and reduce the problems. In addition to recognizing the problems around us, we can become active citizens by trying to find solutions or make them better. In order for the environment we live in to be better, sustainable and livable for all, we need to be active citizens. We all have responsibilities towards the environment that we live in. By not being an active citizen or ignoring what is happening, we are putting ourselves and our environment in a worse position. Actually, here I would like to give a few examples of active citizens. For example, Gülben Ergen founded the Association for Children to Smile. She founded this association to emphasize the importance of pre-school education in Turkey and in the world. Until now, she had 37 kindergartens built throughout Turkey. Another example is Sezen Aksu. Sezen Aksu also supported the social responsibility project “snowdrops” to draw attention to the fact that girls in Turkey do not receive enough education and drop out of school. On the other hand, she wrote the song "Education Overcomes Every Obstacle" in order to draw attention to the problems of the disabled, and she aimed to draw attention to this issue by using the deaf and dumb alphabet in her clip. Of course, we may not be able to participate in such large and costly businesses, but if we do our best for the society and the environment, we can fulfill our responsibilities. We can find solutions to the problems around us and help those who need help as much as we can. 

In fact, the things we are afraid to do or see as too small can have a big impact on our environment and society. I think that environmental awareness and improving everyone's quality of life will have small or big impacts. If everyone does their best as an active citizen, our problems will become smaller and we can easily find solutions. First of all I would like to start with corporate social responsibilities. Corporate social responsibilities means that from the materials produced by the companies to the consumption of these materials, the health, well-being and development of the society should not be ignored. corporate social responsibility is a sense of responsibility towards the society that businesses serve. social responsibility aims to make social life better without harming society in a completely neutral way. As the awareness of these concepts increases, both the world and the cities that we live in will become more livable and sustainable in the future. institutions have some social responsibilities, these are society, state, environment, employees and human rights. In fact, this whole explanation is seem like a dictionary description. Let's come to the ted talks talk we watched about this subject. The speaker was trying to explain that social responsibility should be ahead of corporate social responsibility as the main theme. I agree with the speaker on this topic. While brands and businesses draw attention to social problems, they also try to reflect their own images and concepts in a positive way. These events gradually become an advertising tool for brands to promote themselves rather than a social responsibility project. As an example of the advertising projects I mentioned, I would like to mention CIF which called as cleaning brand. cif recently unveiled new commercials explaining that plastic is harmful to nature. In this context, they will concentrate their products into smaller plastic bottles and then buyers of this product will mix the concentrated material and water and create new cleaning materials. In CIF advertisements, they explained that they aim to protect nature and the cities we live in, within the scope of sustainable development goals, thanks to these new small plastics. However, these small plastic bottles they just produced were more harmful than the old bottles. In my opinion this was just an advertising and profit project. Another project of cif is cleaning the Bosphorus. This project is more beneficial to the environment and society than the other project. Waste collection machines placed in the Bosphorus  will be recycled. Unfortunately, as we have seen in two different projects, companies do not always think about nature and society. In my opinion, companies can continue their campaigns if it will be beneficial, but the society needs to be informed in some way. My suggestion should be to put new advertisements on state televisions, billboards and internet that will raise people's awareness.

The topic that I'm going to talk about today is youth activism. What is activism? The dictionary meaning of activism is the actions taken to bring about a social change or a political change. Youth activism, on the other hand, is the activism I mentioned above carried out by people between the ages of 15-24. According to the speaker in the ted talk talk I watched, the consumption rate of young people is quite high. The speaker divides the young people into 3 categories. According to speaker, young people can be consumers, activists, educators. I think what speaker talks about as a consumer is that the young generation gets bored with everything very quickly and replaces it with a new one. What you are talking about as an educator, I think, is the changing technology and this period is best followed by young people. Thanks to the internet, they can learn everything that is going on in a short time. Young people use technology better than adults, not only for events but also for education. I think that's exactly what speakers talking about as a tutorial here. In fact, adults want to fit young people into a mold. For example, the biggest expectation of adults from young people is to have good grades at school. It seems absurd to them that they should be dealing with other things. The world is changing and developing. We must learn that the world is not just made up of certain things. In fact, the sensitivity and awareness of the young people who keep up with this changing world is increasing considerably. They can comment on their future by looking at the events that happened in the past. Yes, we know that young people have a lot to learn from adults, but I think that adults also have a lot to learn or be inspired by from young people. Thanks to social media, we can now have information about the subject we want whenever we want and show the necessary awareness. Social media is a powerful force for all of us in this period. We must use this power as efficiently as possible. We should explain all this power to people older than ourselves and show how it is done. We see and see young people quite often in many actions from nature to animal rights in the world. We have to get used to this situation of young people and adapt. We are the young people who will raise awareness to the big and small ones or the big companies that shape the world. In this way, we can leave a more sustainable and more spacious life to future generations. We must realize the strength in ourselves and not hide behind adults.

Bugün seçmeli ders olarak aldığım CIT301 dersinin önemli temalarından olan sosyal değişim hareketi hakkında konuşacağım. Öncelikle sosyal değişim ne olduğu hakkında başlamak istiyorum. Sosyal değişim bir ülkede yada toplumda bulunan sosyal sorunları olumlu bir şekilde ele alabilmek için toplumda ve ülkede olan tutumları, değerleri ve eylemleri değiştirme sürecidir. Kısacası toplumun yapısal kültüel ve davranışsal olarak farklılaşmasıdır. Sosyal değişimin birçok sebebi olabilir. Bunlara örnek olarak toplumun bilgi ve deneyiminin artması, savaşlar, eşitsizlik,teknolojik gelişim veya doğal afetler olabilir. Peki sosyal değişimin temsilcisi nasıl olunur? Aslında bu durumu birkaç madde ile özetleyerek açıklayabiliriz. Ilk maddemiz kendi gücünün farkında olmak. Genç olmanız yaşlı olmanız yada maddi açıdan durumunuzun iyi veya kötü olması sizin değersiz bir insan olduğunuz anlamına gelmez. Aksine bütün bu farklılıklala bir değişime yada dönüşüme yön tutmak toplumun her kesimini bir aray bağlar. Diğer bir madde ise araştırma yapmak ve bilgi toplamak. Amacınızla ilgili herşeyi öğrenmelisiniz. Bu bilgileri internet ve etrafınızdaki insanlardan yararlanarak öğrenebilirsiniz. Amacınızla ilgili az önce de bahsettiğim gibi internet yada çevrenizdekiler yardımı ile araştırma yapabilirsiniz. Sosyal değişimin temsilcisi her yaştan her ırktan yada her dilden insan yani herkes olabilir. Sosyal değişim yapıcı veya yıkıcı olabilir. Politika, ekonomi, teknoloji ve sanayi sosyal değişimin ne yönde olacağını etkiler. Aslında sosyal değişime sebep olarak yukarıda birkaç sebep vermiştim. Bu sebeplere birkaç sebep daha eklemek istiyorum. Bence en önemli sebep teknolojinin gelişmesi. Mesela teknolojik gelişme sosyal değişmeyi çok etkiliyor. Örneğin internetin gelişmesi ile medya ve sosyal medya kavramları hayatımızın merkezine oturdu ve insanların hayatını değiştirmede ve yönlendirmede büyük rol oynadı. Bir toplumda sosyal eşitsizliğin sürekliliği, sosyal değişime yönelik çabaları önemli hale getireblir. Toplumun içinde olan belirli bir kısım hoşnutsuz üyeler değişimin gerçekleşmesi için harekete geçebilir. Sosyal bir değişimin hem sebebi hem sonucu olan önemli bir kavram vardır. Bu kavram çeşitliliktir. Çeşitlilik arttıkça sosyal değişim olabilir yada sosyal değişim gerçekleştikçe çeşitlilik artabilir. Biliyorum çok karışık bir cümle oldu ama şöyle bir örnek verip anlaşılması kolay bir hale getireceğim. Örneğin birkaç yıl önce ülkemize suriyeden birsürü insan göç etti. İlk başlarda güney doğu anadoluda yaşayan türk halı göçmenleri misafir perverlikle karşıladı. Fakat zaman geçtikçe göçmenler ve orada yaşayan halk arasında oldukça fikir ayrılıkları olmaya başladı. Bütün bu olaylardan dolayı oranın halkı kendi ülkeleri içinde başka şehirlere göçmeye başladı. Çeşitlilikten dolayı sosyal yapı ülkenin güneydoğusunda değişmiş oldu. Konuşmacı Gerardo Calderon ülkelerin yada toplumların değişim görmek için diğer kültürlerdeki gibi kahraman beklemek yerine Hedeflerine ulaşmak için topluluk olarak bir araya gelmeleri gerektiğini anlatıyor. İnsanların değişimi temelden görmesiiçin topluluklar içinde birçok bağlantı kurması gerektiğini söyledi ve ekledi “Sen bir kahraman değilsin, bundan daha iyisin. Sen gerçeksin” diyerek ekledi.

Başlamadan önce yazdığım bloglardan da anlaşılabileceği üzere siz değerli okurlarıma faydalı bilgiler vererek farkındalık kazanıyorsam yapmak istediğim şeyleri başarabiliyorumdur demektir. Yine farkındalık kazandırabilceğim bir konu olan gönüllüğü sizlere anlatacağım. Sözlük anlamı olarak gönülülüğün ve gönüllü olmanın birkaç anlamı var. Gönüllü kimdir? Gönüllü içinde bulunduğu toplulukta karşılık ya da çıkar bekleöeden bir işi yada görevi kendiliğinden üstlenen kişidir. Bu faaliyetleri özel yada resmi herhangibir kurum veya kuruluşa bağlı yapbilir veya bağımsız bir şekilde bireysel olarak da sürdürebilirler. Bütün insanlar ailelerine ve sevdiklerine hibir karşılık beklemeden yardı eder fakat gönüllüler kan bağlarının olmadığı, yakın çevreleri dışındaki insanların yararına olabilecek yada hayat standartlarını yükseleltecek şeyleri sadece içinden geldiği için yapan kişilerdir. Gönüllüler bir sivil toplum kuruluşu bünyesinde etkinliklere destek verebilirler. Gönüllü olabilmek için diğer insanların dhayatlarının ve yaşamlarının en az sizin yaşamlarınız kadar değerli olduğunun farkında olmak gerekiyor. Çoğu bloğumda olduğu gibi konuyu daha iyi anlatmak ve size daha faydalı bir yazı olması için bu yazıma da bir ted talks ekliyorum. Tedx konuşmacısı Kamilla Sultanova konuşmasında tam da bizim bahsettiğimiz şeylerden konuşuyor. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bzeewqmICU)  Kamilla Sultanova aslen özbekistanlıdır. Yaşadığı ve büyüdüğü toplumda kadınlar ve erkekler arasında çok büyük bir cinsiyet eşitsizliği vardır. Bu eşitsizliğin ortasında olan bir kadın olarak bu konularda duyarlılığı çok küçük yaşlarda artmıştı. O da yurt dışına çıkarak kendi hayatının akışına yön verdi. Hala kendisi gibi ayrımcılığa uğrayan kız çocukları için gönüllü bir şekilde çaba veriyor. Aslında videoyu izlediğinizde kendi kendinize motive oluyorsunuz. Benimde bişey yapmam lazım evet benimde. Hemen ufak bir araştırmayla neler yapılabilir, kimlerle hangi projeye dahil olabilirim gibi birsürü soru soruyusunuz videodan sonra. Kamilla Sultanovanın konuşmasında geçen bir cümle ile kendi gönüllülük anımı anlatmak istiyorum. Gönüllü olma ile herkes kazanır diyor. Ben yaklaşık 7 – 8 yaşlarında iken babamın işyerinde bir gönüllülük projesi vardı. Babamda gönüllü olmayı etrafına karşı iyilik saçmayı seven bir insan olduğu için tabi ki katılmış. Bir gün gelip bize gönüllük projesini anlattığında o yaşlarda tam anlayamamıştım şimdi düşündükçe neler olduğu aklımda oturuyor. Gönüllülük projesi annesi yada babası vefat etmiş ve eğitimine devam eden çocuklara yardım etmekti. Bu kimi zaman eve bilgisayar kurmak, kimi zaman evin internet hattını döşemek kimi zamanda bilgisi olunan derslerde onlara yardımcı olmaktı. İlk kez bu projeye babamla birlikte gitmiştik ve bir çocuğun ve ailesinin evine bilgisayar kurmuştuk babamla birlikte. O evden çıkışımızda babamda bir tebessüm vardı. Yeni yeni hatırladıkça sebebini anlıyorum. Aslında konuşmacının dediği şey tam olarak da buymuş. Gönüllülük ile bir kişiye dokunduk ve aslında bu durumdan biz ve aslında vicdanımız çok büyük etkilendi. Çünkü oraya egolarını çıkarlarını herşeyi bir kenara bırakarak saf ve temiz bir şekilde yardım etmeye gidiyorsun. Gönüllülük tam olarakta hiçbir beklenti olmadan karşındakilere yardım edebilmekmiş. Bu yazımla birlikte aslında gönüllülüğün ne kadar önemli olduğunu ted talks ve kendi düşüncelerimle vurgulamaya çalıştım. Umarım bu yazıdan sonra okuyan herkes bulabildikleri ilk sivil toplum kuruluşu ile birlikte gönüllü olabilirler. Hatta okuyucuların işini kolaylaştırmak için pandemi döneminde uzaktan da gönüllü olabilecekleri bazı kuruluşların linkini buraya bırakıyorum.
