A recent study showed that I learn Chinese courses who reached checkpoint 1, unit 1 scored as well on reading and listening tests. Each skill has six levels, 5 lessons and each level gets me practicing the skill's vocabulary and grammar with more challenging exercise. The skill color and the number in the little crown change when I level up. Duolingo allows you to do that. Let's look at the first lesson in the first module of the Chinese's course. I start with learning some vocabulary such as "Forty". After the first three or four slides, I will have learned how to say a sentence. Many app teach vocabulary but not sentence building.
