Few suggest that remote learning is for everyone. The pandemic showed, unmistakably, that most students learn best in person — in a three-dimensional world, led by a teacher, surrounded by classmates and activities,
but school systems across the country are looking at remote learning as a way to meet diverse needs — for teenagers who have jobs, children with certain medical conditions, or kids who prefer learning virtually. He did not like to get his hands dirty. We would praise him when he would come to the table to watch his friends, which led to us praising him when he would participate in the non-messy part of the activity. He soon had enough confidence to try the messy part of art with a pair of gloves, and then with praise, he wanted to not only participate in art projects but did so with enthusiasm. It was rewarding to see him grow in an area of learning that he was closed-minded to.
