Time periods and intersection

Every character can have their scenes at different time periods perchance

that can lead to certain characters "learning" about the others' stories and changing their own lives based on that.

If we don't end up doing different time periods, then maybe we can do some sort of thing where each character has their separate story-building scenes, but they all intersect at one point and that leads to the main theme.

Or we can incorporate both!!

Diner owners & their kid (main character concept)

Maybe it's like a family business and the kid of the owners is now old enough to take the business over, but he/she is having an internal conflict because they're not sure he/she even wants to.

the kid (probably 20ish) thinks that no one would want to come to an older diner anymore, but he/she decides to watch customer experiences (all the characters and scenes suggested in this section), and learns that things can change, and so can the diner
Maybe this character is the one the play follows mainly, and the other characters are the extra scenes that the kid observes (leads to this main character realizing the theme)

a protester against the diner allegedly using expired ingredients.
