One of the UN’s strengths is helping entire nations to save millions of dollars on conducting peacekeeping operations
The main weakness of the United Nations is the lack of its own army. The main weakness of this is that soldiers from various countries are equipped and trained in their own way, according to their country standards, and when they embark on a joint operation, the divergence in training and orders results in collaboration difficulties (US Government Accountability Office 9). This ramification may be easily tackled if the Member States agree to the creation of the common army that would have its uniform military code, thus enhancing collaboration between soldiers and units.
The main weakness of this is that soldiers from various countries are equipped and trained in their own way, according to their country standards, and when they embark on a joint operation, the divergence in training and orders results in collaboration difficulties (US Government Accountability Office 9).

Group 4:
*Weaknesses
1- It does not have the innate military power to enforce any order. The military power in any UN action comes from member states, most notably from the most powerful states in the world namely the permanent members of the security council. Understandably, those states will only act in their own direct national interests.

2- The UN’s resolutions are only binding if they are approved by the permanent members of the UN Security Council. Since each of the UN Security Council members has veto power, they must all agree before a resolution becomes binding and enforceable.

3- The Permanent members of the UN Security Council represent the largest military arsenals of the world and not a democratic world body.

4- The UN does not have a stable source of budget. It relies on member states to provide it with funds to operate.

*Strengths
1.The United Nations is a strong successor to the League of Nations, as it has improved most of the League of Nations biggest downfalls. As the UN replaced the League of Nations, the UN got the chance to change and improve on most of the League of Nations weaknesses. This allowed the United Nations to be able to ensure they were a strong organization that would do a better job as an international organization than the League of Nations was and so they could ensure that they would be able to resolve conflict before the tension turned into war.

2.The United Nations individual agencies are a large strength of the UN. The UN has many individual agencies such as UNICEF who each focus on international problems and then they campaign and aim at helping to solve or to reduce these problems. As the UN agencies are successful, they help to raise money and/or awareness of problems around the world and because of their hard work, they help millions of people with different issues.

3.The United Nations includes all of the countries opinions while making large decisions. This is a very large strength, as this leads to more committed members of the UN who will be less likely to rebel against the organization or to go against the United Nations opinions. By doing this, the UN is a leading example of equality, as no matter the wealth, size or state in which a country is in, all members of the UN have one vote when discussing key issues. This also ensures that all countries have a say so that all of the final decisions made by the UN will benefit most countries in some way.

4.As the United Nations is an international organization, it impacts more countries and individuals than a regular organization could. This allows the UN to be in contact with almost all of the counties in the world. This is much larger than a regular organization, as not many organizations have 193 countries as its members. This allows the UN to be more efficient at succeeding and fulfilling their organizations purposes through bringing countries together. This is because they have a greater influence on a large number of countries and world leaders than any other organization could.

5.The United Nations brings countries together to promote and achieve peace, development and respect for human rights. This is a strength, as the UN is one of a limited amounts of organizations that has multiple contacts with world leaders. This makes it easy to bring the countries together to discuss any issues.

6.Many countries care about how the United Nations views them, this means that if the UN has to focus their attention on one of these countries due to a problem, that it usually leads to a positive outcome. This is because many countries want the UN to like them, which means that these countries they are unlikely to do anything against the UN's views so that they do not upset the UN. This leads to many cooperating countries that respect the United Nations and who will support the organization and their actions.

he pros are the world needs now more than ever for the nations to unite to prevent Weapons of mass destruction from proliferating. The 114th largest GDP in the world now has nuclear tipped ICBM’s . Jamaica has a higher GDP..,its not the Atacama's of the world that are looking to obtain them, With chemical weapons its 100 year old tech with nuke its 70 year old tech. North Korea is just the tip of the iceburg.

The world also needs a watchdog with moral authority to speak out about human rights . While the world has many different cultures and there are some basic values we all agree to …,on paper. Cant commit a genocide right? Cant have chattle slavery right? The world needs to have an organization that can take the lead in opposing what we have all deemed as “over the line” and the world needs an organization to assist refugee’s fleeing oppression.

Group 2: Quỳnh Anh, Minh Ngọc, Hà Trang, Ngọc Tâm

*Strengths:

   - The maintenance of peace and security has always been a priority to the UN Member States. To achieve this objective, the organization was provided with an executive organism, which would have held the exclusive power to deal with those issues: the Security Council. Its action to promote peace and security helped the international community to solve the worst crisis of the past century and to avert the horrors of another World War.

  - Not only did the UN develop as a successful universal International Organization but it also became a forum to discuss and address other important issues such as equitable and sustainable development, economic and monetary stability, etc. The General Assembly was conceived to meet this goal and, during its activity, it has proved to be essential to elaborate a joint action to face global issues.

*Weaknesses:

    - The UN is only as effective as its member states allow. Current decision-making powers — especially that given to the five nations (China, France, Russia, United States, and United Kingdom) with permanent status and veto power in the Security Council — affects fairness, truth, and lawfulness. Many UN bodies did not live up to expectations.

    - A second weakness concerning the UN’s functioning is related to the lack of democratic mechanisms and accountability, which affects its structure. The composition of the Security Council still reflects the power distribution of 1945 as the five permanent members (United States, France, United Kingdom, China and Russia) hold more powers and prerogatives (e.g. the veto power) than the non-permanent ones. Since the power distribution has strongly changed during the last decades and values of equality between sovereign states have spread in the international community, the composition of the Security Council appears to be anachronistic.
