Social networks are those tools that facilitate communication and interaction with other people, being this, a medium in which people can talk to different people around the world, post photos, share moments, adventures and express their opinions or ideade about issues, content and others. I consider, that the use of these networks has contributed to the advancement of telecommunication, but, we must be careful with the information we are sharing with others, because they can steal your information or manipulate it.

The third conditional is the one we use to talk about the past. But not about something that happened, but about something that could have happened, its consequences in a hypothetical future and if that past event had been otherwise.

As we have seen with the first conditional and second conditional, the third conditional can also be adapted to affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences. Remember to apply the formula: If + Past Simple + Subject + Would + Infinitive. Let's see the table with examples:

-          If I had listened to my mum’s advice, I wouldn’t be in this situation.

-          If I didn’t fell asleep on the train, I would have not missed the stop.

-          Would you have gone to his wedding if he had invited you?

-          If I knew, I would have worn something more elegant. 

-          If only I had worked harder at school, I could have been a doctor.

-          If she'd known he was so arrogant, she wouldn't have gone on a date with him - she hates arrogant people. 

-          If I had studied more, I would have passed the exam.

-          If I had been able to afford it, I would have bought the Porsche.

The passive voice is a grammatical structure used when you do not want to emphasize who or what performs the action, but rather emphasize who or what receives the action.

In general, when we speak, it is more common to use active sentences. An active sentence is one in which the subject is the one who performs the action. However, we can also use passive sentences. In a passive sentence the subject of the sentence is not the one who performs the action but the one who receives the action.

-Messiah was composed in 1741 by Händel

 

-          Organic vegetables are sold in this shop.

-          Organic vegetables aren't sold in this shop.

-          Are organic vegetables sold in this shop.

-          An old letter was found in the box.

-          An old letter wasn't found in the box.

- BOTH

Both always refers to two elements, like "both" in English, and usually precedes these elements. 

- NEITHER 

Neither indicates zero of a group of two ("neither"), i.e. none.

- EITHER

"Either" indicates either, In this sense, it is very similar to "any", but when our choice is limited to two things.

 

It is used in the following way;

- Both" is used with plural nouns.

Example: Both students can take the test.

- Neither with singular nouns.

Example: Neither student can take the test.

- Either with singular nouns

Example: Either student can take the test.

-          Both students can take the test. 

-          Both Frank and Bob live in Chicago.

-          Neither student can take the test.

-          Neither Frank nor Bob lives in Chicago.

-          Either student can take the test.

-          Either Frank or Bob lives in Chicago.

An intensifier is used to give emphasis to the meaning of the words that follow it. They change the strength (or gradation) of the word or adjective. The most common intensifiers are very, quite, too, so and such.

- SO

It is used to emphasize a quantity or quality, also to agree with someone or with the sense of "too".

- "This cake is so expensive!"

- "I have so much to do tomorrow!"

- "Jennifer told me she was so glad you came to the party."

- SUCH

such" (semejante, tal, tan, tanto) to add emphasis, to show extreme feelings or to give an opinion about something.

I am so lucky. I have such wonderful friends!

            That is such a pretty dress! You should wear it more often.

- TOO

 too means too much when placed before an adjective.

I'm too tall to fit in there. 

You're too short to play this game. 

- ENOUGH

Enough means sufficiently or enough, and it is always placed after adjectives. Therefore, you cannot say tall enough; the correct is tall enough.

There is enough space in my back yard. 

There are enough problems in the world.

-          She is really beautiful so I am really scared.

-          Her father is kind of angry so I don't want to talk to him.

-          There is enough food in the fridge.

-          He's too tired to go out.

-          Such pleasant people are welcome here.

Use of why / because and contrast connectors.

 In order to establish the cause and effect relationship, it is necessary to form sentences joined by a connector. Therefore, we work with dependent and independent clauses. A clause is a collection of grammatically related words that include a subject and predicate; the collection of grammatically related words that do not contain a subject or predicate are called phrases.

1. However 

It is used to indicate a contrast or contradiction.

- That man has much money. However, he isn't happy at all 

- 2. On the other hand 

It is used to say something that is different from the first thing mentioned.

I like playing football. On the other hand, my brother likes playing basketball. 

3. Even so 

It is used to indicate something that is unusual or extreme.

This hypothesis is true, but even so, further research is required. 

4.At the same time 

- This is so people can watch TV and play playstation games at the same time. 

-          We can go surfing this weekend, instead of going to the mountains

-          Scuba diving sounds fun. However, I’m scared of jellyfish

-          I don’t want to go to yoga because I’m not very good at it. Alternatively, we can do something we both enjoy!

-          Despite a busy day at work, I’m going to practise using new English connectors when I get home!

-          In spite of the pain in his stomach, Raül continued eating the pancakes

Cause and effect connectors are certain types of discourse connectors or textual markers, that is to say, certain types of linguistic units that serve to link the parts of a text and thus give it a logical structure and organization.

They are used to give a consequence or an effect of something that, some examples can be:

- Because carbon emissions into the atmosphere have decreased, climate change has been slowed. 

- My unit's budget has been depleted. That's why we can't hire new staff. 

- The Internet has made banking transactions easier. Consequently, the same have increased as the years have gone by. 

-          I lost the school bus because I fell asleep. 

-          John could not go to the movie premiere, for he could not buy a ticket. 

-          Laura could not sleep because of the noise her neighbors did.

-          My sister did not come to my party due to the fact that she was sick. 

-          My mom did not let me go to the party owing to the fact that I did not pass the test.
