The stories and and sacred locations shows this earnest knowledge of the place the Navajo believed they originated. By contrasting it with the fact she is following in the steps the books have shown her, it also shows how the stories and places are very grounded, and will always be there. It is that there is more to see out in the world than that they already know.

She felt for displaced, lonely, and alienated from her peers. She also said that her tribe was a matriarchal society, and Dartmouth was a recent change to a coed school. She had to much more in terms of previously all boys school.

Nevertheless, since the Navajo culture is matriarchal, I think I was better prepared as a woman in a "man's world" than many white women I met.

these environments affect her because before she moved, she was used to her life and culture in Mexico. Now that she moved, her daily routine is completely different and I can relate to her because when I moved from Perth Amboy to Edison it was hard to adjust to a new environment and different people around me.
