Artefact- Plants, Animals

This is a 1 minute video I recorded on my trip to the country. I chose to visit an open park. The greenery and flowers were so inviting, I just had to reach out and touch the soft petals of a nearby bloom. But it wasn't just the plants that caught my eye - the park was alive with animals, and I was stoked to spot a few furry friends scurrying around. The birdsong in the background was the perfect soundtrack, adding to the chill vibe. And as I strolled along, the rustling leaves and swaying plants in the breeze created this sense of harmony that was both calming and energizing.

My fun day at the open park!

Me (as an 4 year-old-child) get to visit the open park today with my parents and I am so excited!

-(When seeing the plants sway from side to side, birds are singing, ducks are in the pond): Look! There are so many plants here! They're so green and pretty. I want to touch them! Oh, and I see some ducks swimming in the pond! Hi, ducks!

-(When seeing the koala) I see a koala! Oh, I love koalas! They're so cute and fluffy. I want to play with him. Maybe we can have a tea party together. I'll be the mommy, and he can be the baby.

-(When wanting to play something else) Hmm... what else can we do here? Oh, I know! We can play hide-and-seek behind the plants. Or we can have a picnic on the grass. I'll bring some sandwiches and juice boxes using the leaves.

-(When seeing the care taking take the koala away) Wait... what's happening? The animal caretaker is coming with a special box. Oh no! They're using some plants to get the koala to go into the box. Where are they taking him? Are they going to take him home? Is he going to be okay?

-(Hopefully the koala is safe because we are friend) I hope they're not taking him too far away. I want to play with him some more. But I'm sure the animal caretaker will take good care of him. They just want to help him.

-(When mom and dad said is time to say goodbye) I had so much fun playing and seeing all the cool things here. Maybe next time, I'll get to play with the koala again. Bye for now!

As I delve into the experience, I'm struck by how the three languages - sound, movement, and drama - are interconnected. These languages are not mutually exclusive; instead, they blend harmoniously to create a rich tapestry of sensations, feelings, and thoughts.

I am aware of the soundscape surrounding me: the rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, all blending together to create a symphony of sounds that evoke a sense of calm and serenity. I see the vibrant colors of nature, the intricate patterns on a leaf, and the way light filters through the trees. I feel the gentle breeze on my skin, the softness of the grass beneath my feet, and the sense of grounding that comes from being in nature.

At times, the experience fills me with wonder and awe at the beauty of the natural world. I feel a deep connection to the earth and a sense of responsibility to protect it.

The experience made me think about the importance of slowing down and listening to the world around us. It reminded me of the concept of "dadirri" - inner deep listening and quiet still awareness - as described by Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr. I was also struck by the parallels between this concept and the idea of "listening" to the natural world, as described by Victor Wooten in his TEDx talk. The concept of "dadirri" is linked to the idea of "listening" to the natural world, as described by Victor Wooten. Both concepts emphasize the importance of slowing down and tuning in to the subtle rhythms and patterns that surround us. Similarly, the idea of providing children with opportunities to engage with the natural world can be linked to the concept of "a bill of three rights" as described by Loris Malaguzzi, which emphasizes the importance of providing children with opportunities to explore and learn through play.

I realize that, as children, we're naturally attuned to the languages of sound, movement, and drama, and that these languages are essential to our development and growth.

It is clear that as children, we are naturally tuned in to the languages of sound, movement, and drama. These languages are vital for our development and growth. Children are naturally curious and open to the world around them, and they learn and grow through exploration and discovery. This experience emphasizes the importance of giving children opportunities to interact with the natural world, where they can develop their senses, feelings, and thoughts in a holistic and integrated way.
