When we started the pilot with Synergy, I selected "highest score" as my option to record for students' grades. I guess I was thinking in terms of the writing test - students only need to pass it once. Now, I'm having second thoughts. I have been connecting standards to writing practices done in class so that there is transparency. Students can see where they are for each of the 4 writing competencies. Now, I'm thinking that using the mode might be more accurate.

I would like to make some sort of chart for each student so she can track her progress toward mastering the competencies. Have you all done this and how have you set it up? A simple check list? How often do you update it? If I put each assignment on the chart, it's duplicating my gradebook.

Is everybody documenting "developing" evidence? It seems like A LOT of record-keeping and I'm wondering about the value of entering each assignment in students' charts if they are NOT proficient. (This is Jamie.)
Of course, if students enter this themselves, it may work better and be less cumbersome for me.
