Ms. Thatcher, the prime minister of England and a companion to Ronald Reagan, wrote his eulogy to give a summary of the highlights of his time as president. She honored him and his patriotism at his funeral. Thatcher called him “Ronnie” to show that he was a friend and simply a man. Another main point is that she stresssed his exceptional job as president, by saying that it was the most important eight years of “our” lives.

She uses some personal accounts like calling him “Ronnie” and telling stories about talking to him on a regular basis. This makes Ronal Reagen feel more like a person Andrew less like an object. Another device she uses is quoting other people besides herself. This can help a reader understand different side of Reagan besides just being a good president

One of the main examples was when she talked about Reagan’s quote to Gorbachev.
- Thatcher also was able to use parallel sentence structure to expand her thoughts on Reagan.

Margaret Thatcher utilizes many different rhetorical devices in her eulogy of Ronald Reagan. She uses allusions to give information about events that Ronald Reagan participated in/led in his time as president. Thatcher uses repetition in her eulogy to emphasize certain ideas or themes that she portrays. Thatcher also uses persuasion to affirm her opinion of Ronald on the readers. Thatcher also uses tone repetition through the piece to not only sound slightly serious, but also sympathetic. Polysyndenton, the unnecessary repetition of conjunctions, was used to put emphasis on subjects as well. Thatcher summarizes many of Ronald’s accomplishments in order to persuade the audience. She establishes her credibility by calling him “Ronnie”, showing that she was his friend.
