Strategies being used to try and stop this are training staff up to spot spy's and make them aware of how to spot a spy. Eddie Chapman was a British career criminal who was captured by the Germans during the invasion of Jersey in 1940. He was trained as a spy by the Germans and was sent to Britain to sabotage vital aircraft factories. However, he switched sides and worked for MI5 as a double agent, deceiving the Germans with false information. He was so successful that Hitler awarded him the Iron Cross, Germany's highest honour

Instability and conflict overseas is where there's and absence of government over seas, and terrorist groups take over causing conflict and instability in there countries that can cause damage to the uk national security. Rebel groups are more likely to cross national borders made porous by conflict, often leading government forces to follow suit. Conflict can also have a serious economic effect on surrounding regions. This can effect the Uk as there is an absence of government in this country that can lead to problems with trade and protentional attacks on the UK by the people who might have taken over the country. The U.S. Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability is a long-term initiative to redefine how the United States prevents violence and advances stability in areas vulnerable to conflict.

If the UK security fails it can have massive consequences such as terrorism, espionage, cyber threats and much more. MI5 have been working to help improve the UK security and stop the security system being vulnerability to attack. An example of when the UK security failed is when Daniel Khalifa broke out of a UK prison because the guards wasn't fully trained and didn't know how to find him and look for him breaking out of prison. This posed a massive threat to the public in the UK and the services as he was being held on terror offences, he could have caused an attack on the public when he escaped. The prison service would need to take on more guards and train and show them what to look for more, improving security and it showed the weaknesses in the current system in place prompting improvement of the system.

If security fails people could fall through the gaps and this can pose a massive threat to the UK national security, people who are wanted might seek into the uk can cause trouble without security services knowing. With security failures it can weaken cyber systems causing more trouble within security services and they might now have a plan to fall back on. An example of this is the 7/7 bombings. Where a series of bombing hit London, The people who did this was being followed by MI5 which makes it a security failures as MI5 could have carried on following these people but they moved on this day, there would need to change training are strategies on how they follow people and how quickly they catch onto peoples behaviours.

Strategies that are used by the UK are surveillance of people both covert and overt, They follow people with with cameras and follow them with people, Organizations will train and employ more people to spot more things out of the ordinary and repost any concerns they will train more staff how to look for suspicious behaviour. Other organizations might encrypt things to make it it harder to gain access to information that could be wrong in the incorrect hands, MI5 and MI6 work in secrets and only relies basic information this is so people can’t try to out smart them by loop holes are anything else, they keep highly trained individuals on high alert all the time to track new suspects are possibly find cyber bugs that could cause mass problems. If security threats aren’t delt with properly and harsh there could be a great financial loss or greater loss of jobs within the UK, If any type of threat isnt delt with properly it could make the UK vunerable to attack from terror groups are possible other country’s where there consequence cold be massive.

Contest is the UK counter-terrorism strategy, first developed by Sir David Omand and the Home Office in 2003, as an immediate response to 9/11 and a revised version was made public in 2006. The aims of Contest are to reduce the risk from terrorism to the UK, its citizens and interests overseas, so that people can’t go about there lives freely and with confidence. Contest work of 4 themes prevent, to stop people becoming terrorist or supporting terror, Pursue to stop terrorist attacks happening. Protect to strengthen our protection against a terror attack, to be prepared to minimise the impact of a terrorist attack. If contest fails, people could be radicalised to believe in terrorism and possibly carry out attack believing its doing good, with no support they could fall through the gap and possibly make other people believe in terrorism and go under the raydar posing a massive risk to national security.

Management of the physical environment changes to work with the surroundings such as putting fusing u to stop people are animals from from going into restricted areas. There are many different thing you can put up to work with the environment such as electric fencing and high rises fencing. You can put up additional lighting to help brighten up the local area to stop threats coming closer to bases before its to late. These are physical things you can put in place to prevent people from gaining access to areas these might work good with the local environmental, if these wasn’t in place it could make easy targets for people to carry out attacks or possibly discover secrets or weak spots in bases are police stations that could lead to them being over run are possibly overthrown that can be a massive threat to the UK national security as a bigger threat to the people and government.

In the UK we have a level we rate on if an attack is possible we are currently on substantial which means an attack is likely. Low means there isnt a risk and critical means an attack is highly likely. The threats from terrorism are exposing weak points in the system that could lead to more attacks in the future are possibly services being targeted as it will show where services was allocated and how quick response time was that terrorist could use in the future to carry out much worse attacks. Attacks pose threats on infrastructure which could slow down response time by service as there could be other hidden dangers within the rubble and will slow down finding injured people, if the attack is on government buildings documents could be lost and it will expose weaknesses in security and defence of government buildings.

There are many factors that can impact terrorism, such as religious views, people will change the wording of religious views to brain wash people into thinking they are doing the greater good, they often do this at a young age many studies show, the power of religious beliefs can make violence more likely. An example of this happening in real life are ISIS terrorist attack upon the Yazidi section, a religious attack.

Extremist Views can also impact terrorism, Radicalisation is when someone starts to believe or support extreme views, in some cases this leads to them joining in with terrorist acts. People can be brainwashed by extremist views that make them take part in terrorist acts, this poses a massive threat to national security as it can happen online to any young people.

Perpetrated by Islamic extremist Salman Abedi and aided by his brother, Hashem Abedi, the bombing occurred at 10:31 p.m. and killed 22 people, injured 1,017, and destroyed the arena's foyer. North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) did not deploy ambulances to the scene until nearly 30 minutes after the blast and there was only one paramedic at the scene for the first 40 minutes after the explosion, In the same hour GM Police had declared a major incident, with armed police and British military personnel deployed to Manchester city centre as part of Operation Temperer. Internal Manchester City Council and wider GM multi- agency plans, procedure and structures were all activated. For big events such as this they could have ambulances on standby instead on slowly dispatching resources. Greater Manchester Police service could have declared a major incident earlier and got more resources in to help out and secure the scene and set up a cordon, they could have set up security checkpoint to check bags and people for bombs.

There were 166 arrests for terrorism-related activity in the year ending 31 March 2021, 98 fewer than in the previous 12-month period (a fall of 37%). There has been a decline in terrorist arrest which means the police and counter terrorism have worked well tracking and arresting people. There have been less attacks of terrorism in the last couple of years the last one the UK had one was in 2021. Over the last 20 years we have seem a decline in deadly terrorist attacks in the UK, suggesting it has improved and gotten better with the police arresting more people and following more people. On the world index the UK is good for termism in 2022 and one of the safer countries on the Index. Certain political views have effected terrorism over the last twenty years leading people to take over countries and overthrow government, Wars over land and religious views have happened causing terrorism to go up.
