Last month, a 16-year-old tragically lost his life after consuming an energy drink, a soda and a latte — drinks routinely consumed by and often intensively marketed to youths — all within a few hours. The boy’s heart simply couldn’t cope with the amount of caffeine in the beverages, according to the coroner. (Crawford, P., & Gosliner, W.

In 2011, the American Academy of Pediatrics released a report on the appropriateness of sports and energy drinks for children and adolescents, concluding that “energy drinks pose potential health risks because of the stimulants they contain, and should never be consumed by children and adolescents.” In 2013, the American Medical Association adopted a policy supporting a ban on the marketing of energy drinks to those under 18, arguing that energy drinks could lead to a host of issues in young people, including heart problems.

Energy drinks, in my opinion, should be prohibited for Malaysians under the age of 18. According to a comprehensive study published in Pediatrics, energy drinks have increasingly become a source of caffeine overdoses. Excessive use of these stimulants and chemicals can result in dependence, dehydration, insomnia, heart palpitations, and an increased heart rate. The bottom line is that energy drinks should never be consumed by children or adolescents. They should also drink plain water during and after routine exercise rather than sports drinks, which contain additional caffeine that contributes to additional health problems.

( Pamela A.

In my opinion, energy drink should be banned for Malaysian under age of 18 because it contains too much caffeine. Though it is already been written that it is only contained a little caffeine but there could be a lots of additive such as guarana. Guarana seeds may contain four to six times more caffeine than coffee beans. Excessive caffeine consumption has been linked to tachycardia, tremors, elevated blood pressure, and, in the most severe cases, rapid death.
