An individual with high influence to myself and numerous others, Mac miller has a signature style of rapping that evolved through the years. One particular aspect about mac's creative process which i'm personally drawn to is his involvement in production of not only his but other accomplices work some of these include: SZA, kendrick lamar, The internet, chief keef and more (Retrieved from Spotify Producing credits). sampling is a huge method to mac's production techniques, sampling tracks such as "it's a blue world" by the four freshman in his track "blue world". Miller produces under the alter ego of Larry Fisherman (Retrieved via https://genius.com/artists/Larry-fisherman) and also releasing jazz based records under the alias of "Larry Lovestein & the velvet revival" (Via, https://open.spotify.com/artist/3LTYeDqM0ojTaTpsi63puM)

Iggy pop's influence is immeasurable, arguably one of the biggest in rock history. Inspiring genres with the emergence of 70s punk rock and the later arrival of 90s grunge. Iggy is a hedonistic-anarch-causing-poet who delivers an easily recognisable singing style from the use of his baritone voice to yelling and on edge screaming. Iggy moulds his music by conveying emotions, statements and anecdotes. Iggy's break through into the industry was via his band the stooges whose incredible sound is ageless even nowadays; scrappy guitar work, short punchy riffs all tied beautifully with chaotic angsty vocals.

From direct collaboration to an inspiring musical wittiness. bowie is heavily responsible for both the stooges and iggy's work throughout the duration of their careers "Raw Power was recorded at CBS Studios in London, produced by Iggy Pop, in September-October 1972 and later mixed in Hollywood by David Bowie" (Legacy Recordings, 2023). Bowie in the time of the 70s was a breath of fresh air and a mark of a new era and a new wave. He is best known for playing a multiple on stage characters e.g. ziggy stardust, alladin sane, major tom etc.. Pop replicates this same sort of imaginary storyline and character through his on stage antics as the Iggy Pop (his on stage alias, his government name being jim osterberg)

The doors and more specifically Jim Morrison were a huge influence on Iggy pop's stage presence behaviour and musical genre/style "From Morrison, it was the way to stand at the mike — the stance and the grab. He hung on the stand. Nobody else did that.'' (Pop, Rolling stone, 2007). In the early to late 60s Jim Morrison was rocks biggest rebel screaming his lyrics with drunk passion and constantly making headlines for his misbehaviour constantly getting the band, banned from venues. Not only is Morrison & The doors stage presence a huge influence on Iggy's stage character but also his music style. removing boundaries and encouraging rebellion.

The Stones were one of the biggest bands of their time with a career spanning over many decades. Their influence was entirely huge to put it simply and were the most ostentatious group of rockers for their time, until of course an inspired and influenced iggy pop came along drawing everything from Keith Richards' over indulgence and jaggers loud/proud stage charisma and ridiculous dance moves, taking it to another level. "That’s when I thought: If they can do it, I can do it too. Besides that, Jagger developed into a great Rock’n’Roll lyricist later" (Pop, Vinylwriter's Newsletter, 2020)

A very clear influence toward Miller's stylistic direction. Tribe is renowned for their mixing and more specifically expertise sampling .A predominent sampling of jazz tracks creates a signature sound to tribe "the ideas for Tip’s earliest productions were sparked by his father’s extensive vinyl collection. His father’s enormous jazz collection was of particular interest" (Sorcinelli, 2016). Similar to the likes of Miller's works who often samples old school jazz tracks also. Tribe's style is mirrored through Miller's work and can be heard with components such a vinyl scratching, melodic snare beats and skilful wordplay. from not only directly coming out and expressing tribe's direct influence "umm you've got midnight marauders, Tribe" (Miller, #5 Podcast, 2013)

An influence on Miller who is also referred to have inspired miller to start his musical journey "The name of Big L....that was the dude that made me want to pick up the pen and write" (miller, 2012). Big L is one of hip-hops greatest Mc's who had a huge influence on newcomers to the game such as mac. Most commonly recognised by his clever wordplay and ability to talk about issues and anecdotal experiences in his raps. "He really inspired me to be clever and witty. My early stages of rapping, I was basically trying to be like Big L" (Miller, XXL, 2012)

The beastie boys were a wave of style and influence for their era. not only were they pioneers in sampling everything and anything "On this record we wanted to combine everything. We wanted to have samples, programmed stuff, play and then sample what we played, and have it all living together, very interwoven, layered densely on top of each other" (Tingen,2011) The beastie boys showed that age, race and background did not matter in hip-hop it was instead assessed by creative ability and appeal. Miller similar to the beastie boys experiments with both sampling of absurd elements such as short audio clips from movies and also includes self conducted instrumentals from bass, drums to electric guitar similar to the B boys who also individually were musically trained.
