While we were visiting a creol garden we didn’t see any plants growing separated from other kinds of plants. It is more like the opposite, there were many plants which even grow better in a mixed field because there are supporting each other and sharing the nutrition. So every plant gets what is needed. It seemed like the nature shows us there is no reason to worry about multiculturismen!

But then we also get to know GWO KA - a typical drum and kind of music in Guadeloupe. It came up during the time of the slavery in Guadeloupe and there are different times of the day which are represented by seven rhythms. I was really impressed when we were just listening. But then we started playing by ourselfs I felt the energy starts growing.

And besides this, it is nice to know that is is not about the ability but about the communication and the unity of the ones who join in.

Although the session was still very challenging for me, it was also really deep, emotional and happy. The connection that was made through the music between all of the participants was such a unique feeling to me. I had an urge to hug everybody in the end and felt close to all that had shared the experience. I was really proud of our group for doing so good and creating the different rythms. Also Kudos to everybody for being so brave in dancing and singing! I think that going through a challenging experience like this can really catapult a group to the next level of productivity. The drum- teachers, especially William, also did an amazing job. I can imagine that it takes a lot of invisible pedagogy- magic to make me feel that comfortable to come out of my shell.
 
In reflecting with Dajana afterwards, we both noticed that we felt jealous about having such a strong and emotional „national musical treasure“ as the Gwoka in Guadeloupe or the Kankle tradition of Lithuania. Germany probably has a lot of traditions, but almost all of those got lost through the war. Today, turning to national traditions and symbols in Germany is always connected to very right wing and conservative ideals. I can see, that it can be in our hands, to support the development of new „national treasures“ that belong to everybody in our society, as we can see in the examples given to us daily by the people of Guadeloupe. Developing those shared „new“ traditions is such an enormous accomplishment for a society!

I also take away from today, that the best initiation for learning is to inspire a personal interest in the pupils. Experience, participation and self-efficacy are transformative tools for a positive and engaged learning experience. As Tucker/James put it: Teach the kids to know, to care and to act.
