Also celebrated in February, since it is always celebrated immediately before Lent, it is one of the events in the Dominican Republic most anticipated by its inhabitants. Colorful parades are organized in all provinces, and they display the outfits created for the occasion, accompanied by the rhythm of music.

The main character of this festival is known as the lame devil. It is characterized by its grotesque mask and a very shiny cape. However, he is usually represented in multiple ways, since he has a more mischievous than evil character. In addition to this, costumes are used that are a tribute to the Taíno and African cultures. Like for example, the Pintaos de Barahona.

Of all the parades, the National Parade in Santo Domingo is the largest. Groups from all over the country come there and meet on the Malecón. Anyone who comes there can participate and enjoy the party.
