Yellow Fever occured 3 times in Savannah, in 1820, 1854, and 1876. In 1820 about 666 people died of yellow fever, in 1854 1,040 people died.  1876 was the turning point of Savannah's medical history. On August 11, 1876, a very fatal case of yellow fever had come to Savannah's eastern docks, and withing two weeks 1,066 residents had died. By September 5,000 out of 28,000 people had fled the city. Yellow fever was a very scary disease, and symptoms included, fever, chills, back pain and jaundice which is a yellow-green tint to the skin.
