With over 175,000 residents, Santa Clarita is a common middle class suburbia much like any other within the US. In this way, it is not surprising that Santa Clarita shares incredible similarities with the 50s developments of Levittown. Built to be "the most perfectly planned community in America" , Levittown emerged as one of the largest suburban towns during the fifties with many amenities to keep the middle class entertained and busy. Santa Clarita is much like a modern day Levittown with it's similar geographical planning and various suburban amentities. Places such as Stevenson Ranch as well as Westridge exhibit housing with almost identical floor plans as well as exteriors to increase the efficiency of home building.  This is much like how Levittown utilized similar housing structures to increase living space. Houses in both communities were placed uniformly next to each other. Furthermore, the curvy streets in Levittown as well as Santa Clarita have distinct names. In Stevenson Ranch, the streets are named after various authors such as Twain as well as Hemingway. In Westridge, gated communities have street names such as Greenleaf Court and Willowbrooke Ln. This phenomeon is identical to that described in Levittown. The paved streets also curve giving the neighborhood a distinct suburban aesthethic. Furthermore, there are many trees in SCV neighborhoods much like how Levittown was decorated. As suburban cities they both exhibit a very cozy vibe. They are the epitome of a middle class neighborhood and continue to be one of the best places to live. Everything from home planning to street naming systems are similar in both cities. Furthtermore, there are many different amenities to keep residents entertained, fed, and happy in both SCV and Levittown. They are both suburban dreams that cater to their locals. However, the time gap between the two cities create noticeable differences between the two communities. Levittown's style of chrome, future, and bright distinct to the 50s differs from Santa Clarita's simple, modern, and neutral design. Also, Santa Clarita is obviously more racially diverse than Levittown's prejudicial nature. According to "Dream Town- Large Economy Size" in New York Times Magazine, Levittown consisted of various amenities such as swimming pools, school sites, sporting fields, town halls, and much more. Levittown was the classic suburban town we all know and love today. Similarly, Santa Clarita also has many services and facilities throughout the city for the comfort of the residents. There are many restaurants such serving food all the way from burgers to seafood. Also, the community is speckled with public schools such as Oak Hills and West Ranch High School that offer education to the residents. There are many shopping options in Santa Clarita as well such as the Westfield Mall. Tennis courts, basketball hoops, and swimming pools also provide things to do for the people living in this suburban city. With all these different options to enjoy middle class life, Santa Clarita provides just as much (if not more) than Levittown did in the 50s. With this gap in time, there is also a gap in style as to what the people living in these towns considered in style. In Levittown, futuristic chrome furniture and appliances were the norm. Bright, creative colors were also very much in style. During the 50s, a common Levittown flathouse may have been colored coral pink with a midnight blue refridgerator; even green toilet paper! Furthermore, the design of buildings, appliances, cars, and other consumer goods were based on futuristic styles (such as the rocket fins on automobiles as well as sunburst clocks). On the contrary, Santa Clarita exhibits a conservative style that differs from the traditional 50s Levittown design. Santa Clarita homes are usually painted in a very neutral color such as any light colors or beige. Furthermore, furniture as well as appliances are very simple and straightforward, lacking the extra color and design classic to Levittown households. In the 1950s, there was heavy discrimination against the black community. One account describes how an African American WWII Veteran, Eugene Burnett, was denied a home in Levittown as the owners of the development haven't decided on the selling of homes to negroes. This was often the case in developments such as Levittown as the general social climate in Levittown was very segregated and racist. In Santa Clarita, although most residents are white, it is illegal to deny people homes based on the color of their skin. This was also evident in the school system as well. Levittown was composed of 97.37 percent whites according to a census. Most of the students attending school ( or just living in Levittown in general) were white! There was no racial diversity whatsoever in this 1950s town. Oppositely, Santa Clarita has much more diversity throughout the community. Schools in SCV have a mixture of blacks, whites, asians, and other races unlike their Levittown counterpart.
