The American Dream is similar with Materialism because it has to deal with how people desire what they want and what that persons dream is, and materialism is about the things that you still take no matter what form its in,

I believe the american dream can be synonymous with materialism, but it depends on the person. Some people may want riches for working everyday and getting what they want with their own money. But others may want to live simply without the power and the riches and feel they would be comfortable with that, such as the time you spend with people not necessarily things or objects.

I think the american dream can be synonymous with materials but can also be about somebody's dream. Materialism is about wealth and materials instead of wanting their own dream. Some people just want a big house and expensive cars but others may want to own a buisness.
