Ramses II reigned as Pharaoh of Egypt during the 19th Dynasty from 1279 to 1213 BC. Ramses II was the pharaoh with the 2nd longest reign in history accomplishing great conquests in modern-day Syria against the Hittites while building many colossal statues of himself during his 66 year reign.

The role of a pharaoh in Ancient Egyptian times was to make laws for the empire to follow, to wage war against their enemies such as when Ramses II waged war against the Hittites in the Battle of Kadesh, to collect taxes which , and finally to be the bridge between the living world and the afterlife as the physical representation of a God.

While not much is known about Ramses II's family apart from the fact that he was related to everyone who was in the 19th Dynasty, from my research I was able to find his Dad, Menmaatre Seti I (or Sethos I in Greek) who was the 2nd pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty of Egypt during the New Kingdom, ruling (c.) 1294 or 1290 BCE to 1279 BCE. He was the son of Ramesses I and Sitre, his mum, Tuya (also called Tuy or Muat-Tuya) was the wife of Pharaoh Seti I of the 19th Dynasty of Egypt, and his siblings Tia, Nebchasetnebet, and Henutmire which not too much being known about his siblings.

Ramses II's religious policies weren't many, if anything they were to just follow the God Amun-Ra as Ramses II was a devoted follower of the traditional Egyptian religion and during his reign he would actively promote the worship of Amun-Ra.

Ramses II like most other pharaohs built many statues and monuments of himself to glorify himself and to make sure people knew he was the Pharaoh and the physical representation of Amun-Ra, Ramses II would construct the temples at Abu Simbel, the hall at Karnak, the complex at Abydos, the Ramesseum (tomb complex) at Thebes, and hundreds of other buildings, monuments, and temples during his reign.

Internally, for the early part of his reign, he focused on building cities, temples, and monuments. After establishing the city of Pi-Ramesses in the Nile Delta, he designated it as Egypt's new capital and used it as the main staging point for his campaigns in Syria. And externally, Ramses II embarked on numerous campaigns to restore possession of previously held territories lost to the Nubians and Hittites and to secure Egypt's borders. He was also responsible for suppressing some Nubian revolts and carrying out a campaign in Libya.
