  • Overview- To me this article is trying to explain how kids get bored. The article talks about how when kids want something, they usually get it right away because they are rarely told no. Whenever they are told no, they sometimes throw fits. One of the problems with society for kids is the use of technology. When kids are obsessed with their tablet, phones, or gaming system. So when it’s time to interact with someone they are no used to it and they end up getting bored.

    1.) I totally agree with everything this article says about technology. Technology can be very useful and can positively influence productivity but sometimes it can also  also lessen productivity and pamper ones performance. Technology can have a very negative effect, especially in children and when overused. 
    2.) I agree with what the author says about children being socially limited by technology. Today's generation of children are spending all their time on phones and computers playing video games instead of going outdoors and exploring their social skills. 
    3.) I also agree with the authors advice on how to change society for the better. I believe that if parents and teachers listened to these points and tried putting them into action it would positively affect children's ability to communicate and be a productive member ofsociety.

  • The article goes to explain how children are not as disciplined as they were before, and how they are not as motivated because everything comes easy to them, and that since technology and our society is different, children have a different grasp of what life should be like and don’t have a realistic view of how they should go about their lives. 
  • As Pooday stated, children get what they want and are in control of their parents, when it should be the other way around. Parents always want to make their children happy, but they don’t realize that it is actually hurting the child, when they think they are helping. She also states how children are now limited to how much they interact with other children, which affects their social skills, and could hurt them in the long run with their jobs and making friends. But I also disagree with technology making kids lose their social skills, because children are also able to make friends easier and find people easier who share the same interest of them. 
  • This article affects my school life because when I was younger, I was not as focused in school due to technology and would always procrastinate my work. Now that I am using my phone less, I have very good grades and I am able to focus on thing that highly impact my life and me as a person.

I agree with her 100% and I feel that each parent out there should at least look at what she has to say. She brings up the fact that the brain is malleable and we can either make it stronger or weaker, especially at childhood. She said that we are just trying to satisfy them no matter the situation, if you give your child anything and everything they will be hit with reality by the time they have to make their own decision or be on their own. She also brought up that we are always trying to entertain our children and whenever there’s a dull moment we are back on it trying to entertain them again. We must allow them to learn how to entertain themselves, outside playing making friends building there imagination.   • Victoria Prooday is writing about her opinion on why children today are mentally unprepared for education. She believes that the problem starts with how our parents taught us when we were young. She disagrees with the overuse of technology, giving your kids whatever they want, letting your kids overpower you, and limiting their social interactions. 
  • Prooday says, parents have taught their child’s brain to get what it wants right away. I strongly agree with this statement, most children this day in age are never told no. Parents will give into the child’s wants so they do not have to listen to them whining anymore. Prooday also says, technology disconnects us emotionally from our children and our families. I concur with this statement as well, many children are obsessed with their phones. If you are with your family and you are on your phone, you are not actually there with them. I also agree with Prooday, on how children should be on taking part in more activities rather than on their phones. Prooday says, technology has replaced outdoor time. This statement is completely true, rather than playing outside, kids are playing video games. Prooday states that if a child wants to be an A student, they need to study hard. I disagree with this statement because every child is different. For some students it is easier to retain knowledge than others.

    1. I totally agree with Victoria when she say that kids need to learn the word no. When ever I go to a store I always see a kid throwing tantrum when they are told that they can not have something. I think that this is a bad behavior that should not be tolerated and that they need to learn that they can have everything that they want.

    2. I also agree that kids don't need to have endless fun. Sometimes things will just be boring, and kids need to learn how to just sit there and just do nothing. Life ins't a party there will be boring moments.

    1. I don't think that technology is ruining our social skills. Technology is allowing us to communicate with people in ways we have never imaged. Through technology I have made friend around the world and I haven't meet most of them. This has helped me devolve my social skill and improve them.
    2. I don't agree that setting limits on out kids time is very wrong. I believe that they should be able to decide when they go to bed as they will be the ones to suffer the consequences when they wake up with a lack of sleep. This will help to teach them that they need to manage there time wisely. I also think that kids should not be limited that much on technology time because it can help them learn about anything they want and show them the incurable things in our world.
    3.  I also disagree that the endless fun effects us when it comes time to learn. I have played video games my entire life and I can realize that not everything will be fun and that school is a probably. I think that Victoria is under estimating the kids ability to detach from technology.


    3. This doesn't really apply to me that much for school. Although I do get board at times and lose focus, I believe that everyone lose focus at some point and that it is due to the boring teaching style. The author said that all time is fun time, but I believe that if people made teaching fun and not a chore that kids would love to learn and learn more about the world around them. I Think that we should update the way we teach our children. The way we teach hasn't evolved that much since the 1920's and that is shown when we are told to obey every order that is given to us, when we are told what order we have to do things, and when we told what we have to do. This type of teaching was meant for making factory workers who would obey every order and do stuff a certain way. However, occupational therapist Victoria Pooray  argues that children are becomes less and less prepared to deal with even the smallest of disruption or stress. The fact I agree with the most is how children are becoming very reliant on their gadgets that are being handed to them with little or no restrictions. The internet is a really dangerous accessible place that technology provides us with. This generation is more tech savvy than some of their parents or even older siblings. I also agree with the fact that many parents do chose to take the easy way out of parenting just by providing their kids with anything that will solve the situation at hand.  How can anyone be prepared to deal with stress or real life problems if they’ve never even got a glimpse of what the word “no” really is and no understanding of the world outside of their gadgets. The fact that “kids rule the world” cannot be any truer because many parents chose to do whatever their child is telling them to know but clearly dont have the mental capacity or understanding to know right from wrong. So if parents can’t even follow their instinct and continue to give things what they want instead of what they need, the message for kids is very negative.

Prooday claims that parents have to do everything for their children, but I do most things on my own. I wake myself up, I make breakfast, dinner, I do my own homework, and I do not stay up all night. I am not obsessed with technology, in fact I spend most of my time outdoors with friends. I usually don’t get what I want immediately, but I never really asked for much. Her “kids rule the world” passage is something I disagree with too. If a student wants straight A’s, they obviously know they have to work hard considering they have been in school for years. Her “endless fun” passage is not endless fun. Maybe in kindergarten they let it slide if the kids disagree with a spelling assignment, but in high school if they don’t want to do it, then they get a zero, and thats it. I agree with how kids don’t want to work these days, but its always been that way. Kids want to work only with what they want to succeed in in life. If they want to be a doctor, they will work for that, if they want to be an athlete, they have the minimum grade requirements to get into the best college they can for athletics. Also more ways to help parents make their children more patient, and creative. Three points in the article that I agreed with is for parents to limit some of the use of technology, more social interaction with their children, and don’t be afraid to limit their children. This article applies to me and my interest, because sometimes before I go to bed, I check my phone and end up staying up later than expected.

Prooday believes children are emotionally dead and unresponsive to social cues. She claims that technology has completely destroyed us. I completely disagree. I believe that technology has offered us a path through which we can share our thoughts, build relationships, and spread news. Technology has made communication between families from faraway places much easier. However, I side with Prooday with the fact that parenting has become very obsolete. Parents no longer give their children much attention and ignore their thoughts. We have plenty to say and think a lot however many teachers, parents, and elders refuse to listen. Parents have forgotten what it means to be patient and have seemingly lost faith in their kids.

    • This article is about trying to teach your brain to want to learn. Its about how parents shouldn’t always give you your wants and needs. You should be training yourself to do the laundry, and clean the dishes. The article is telling you to learn certain  duties and work ethics now so you have no problem or questions when the times comes when you have to do it all alone.

    What I agree with:
    - I agree that kids should hep there parents for often at home. So they learn how to do those things when they’re much older. 
    - I agree with giving them more nutritious foods and giving less junk food. 
    -I agree with less video games, and phones. They should go outside more and socialize with people face to face then on a screen. 
    What I disagree with:
    - I don’t disagree with anything. 
    3. How does this article apply to you or someone you know? 
    My friend josh is in the band for his school and focuses really hard on that. I feel like this article can help him because he tends to drift off when it comes to school work.
