The radar network, known as Chain Home, extended along the southern and eastern coasts of Britain, allowing RAF Fighter Command to conserve resources by deploying fighter planes only where needed. This early warning system was vital, as it gave British pilots enough time to respond effectively to Luftwaffe attacks.

For the Germans, this meant that they had less supplies, and soldiers who were unwilling to operate them, making their defense less efficient. This meant that the Allied troops were able to advance through the tricky landscapes more easily with with more supplies, and operating technology.

The planning of D-day had to account for meteorological factors which were decisive for the success of the operation. Allied naval operations required calm seas, and ground troops needed to land at low tide so that German beach obstacles which were built to witstand the Allied invasion were exposed and easier to deactivate. The development of the tide prediction machine allowed the Allied to identify the very narrow time window between 5th and 7th of June where weather conditions would allow for the succesful invasion of Normandy.
