         <title>Difficult People</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Our question: What counts as a "difficult person" in the classroom? It doesn't always mean that a student is combative or uncooperative, but perhaps they don't listen or communicate in the way we would like, especially in their writing. One example we had was a student using the term "colored" to describe African-Americans. A solution we discussed was to frame this issue in the context of the rhetorical situation. Rather than trying to police their language (because students often respond negatively to that), it is framed as a distraction to the reader. The reader may focus in on the use of this term rather than listening to the author's message, so the writer needs to be careful in how they use terminology while making their argument.</div>]]></description>

To decrease colonial level transactions of voice and grade, we should ask students which outcomes they feel most apply to assignments.
