Though I have no memory of the place growing up, I was born in Iowa and move states at the age of 4 - the first of many. Because traveling across states is such a prevalent part of my life, it is hard to pinpoint an exact state I can call my forever home. However, I is always refreshing at times to think back to my origins...plus its fun to see how surprised people are when they learn about it.

The Peach State

A new chapter of my life, and the first one I have fond memories of contrary to my baby era like my childhood best friend and picked up swimming for the first time. However, with a new state came new challenges as well, as my father worked in New York city to provide financially. My mother really stood out taking care of both of us especially with my older brother starting up college - now that's leadership.

Brief Wilderness Era

My high school Mayterm project - spend two weeks backpacking and traveling in national parks in Utah with friends. Many ups and downs, both physically and emotionally - all in the end bringing my already close group even tighter.

A food memory I had here was the funny enough a cup ramen. Who knew a simple meal could taste so good? A heartwarming wrap up of my high school years with a "see-you-later Utah" and leading into college.

Reunion in Jersey

My most recent move to a new state (Maryland doesn't count) and if I had a forever home, I would probably call it here. Hardest adjustment to a new place, but looking back, these numerous moves helped me grow and adjust well in new environments - my high school always had numerous people coming in each year, I was motivated to make them felt at home too.

Fork in the Road: Farewell Swimming

The pandemic came and with our ability to go outside took the opportunities to swim. At this point, it was a sport I had done for 10+ years and virtual drylands were simply not doing it for me. Prioritizing working at home and not getting myself or anyone sick, I had to put down the swim suit and cap for a while.

On a surface level, the food is amazing. I rarely ate Indian food back home but wow did I miss you. Gathering here with my close friend group every two weeks, it felt like tradition since end of freshman year. Now as juniors and very very (very) different schedules, its harder to meet up but I know anyone would be down for a nice bowl of paneer masala.
